BMW Team Manager Walter Riedl says that the team’s pre-season development programme has gone to plan and that the new car, the F1.09 will be ready for its launch later this month.
The Hinwil and Munich based outfit is set to launch its new car on January 20 in Valencia. Despite suffering early setbacks with the development of their Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS), the team were among the first to get to grips with the new aerodynamic regulations and showed strong form in winter testing.
Riedl says that there will be nothing to stop the launch of the new car in nine days time.
“We are on schedule,” he told the team’s official website. “The component production during the winter break went exactly to plan. Everything is now focused on 20th January, the roll-out of our 2009 car in Valencia.”
“We started with this as early as last summer. The latest components to have been produced are, for example, the front wing end plates. The regulations for these were only finalised midway through December.”
