Alonso optimistic for the rest of the season

Fernando Alonso believes that Renault possesses the ability to have a strong remainder to their 2009 season.

The Enstone-based team currently lie seventh in the Constructors championship after a poor campaign so far. Renault’s season has also been blighted by the team’s suspension from the European Grand Prix, after a front wheel became detached from Alonso’s car during the Hungarian Grand Prix.

However the French-manufacturer appears to be beginning to return to form, with Fernando Alonso recording a strong pole position in Hungary.

With this, the Spaniard is now convinced that Renault can build upon this form and fight for podiums in the remaining part of the season.

“I think we proved last year that anything is possible in Formula One, and Renault has always proved as well their capacity to improve the cars and find the direction to go,” Alonso said during a Renault podcast interview.

“This year I don’t see any reason to not be optimistic for the rest of the championship,” he added. “And hopefully a podium or a win is still possible.”
