I don't know, but I think that Williams will be higher up the grid next year... Perhaps even the front row!

Reasons:

- It is no secret Frank has been working on next year's car.
- Rubens Barichello has joined next year.

Why is the latter a good indication? Rubens wants a WDC. His position at Brawn was by no means in jeapordy, and he had a good chance of pushing for podiums again next year. It does not make sense that he would sign for Williams, when his best chances of getting that WDC next year is with Brawn.

Or is it?

I will be eagerly watching Williams next year, although my support is for Red Bull. I want Vettel to win the WDC but something tells me that the top 4 teams next year will be Red Bull, Williams, McLaren, and Mercedes GP. So I don't want them to win either title, but I do want the Williams team getting wins again next year.

Anyone else have hopes for Williams?

I see Williams making a step forward but I can't see wins coming next season unless the Cosworth engine is something special. I would love to see Williams getting back to winning ways but I think it will take more than one season to achieve it; maybe in 2011/12 when the budgets will be restricted and Sir Frank can compete on level terms.

Hey Cosworth has been good in the past. Right? Right?

Am I right anyone?

Anyone at all? :(

Hey they actually have! :) I did some research and Williams did win a WCC in 1981 with Cosworth. Oh, and 1980. :whip:

History means nothing here and now, it's what's happening right now and Cosworth hasn't made a decent engine in many years. Although this time around, Cosworth has a big advantage not having to abide by the same rules as other engine manufacturers, notably not being limited to 18,000rpm (unless I have missed a change in that rule?).

I thought Rubens signed mid year when he was paranoid that Brawn where leaning towards Jenson.

Cossie engines, I think the reason that they are not as limited is that they are not as advanced

Your reasons aren't very strong though, lots of teams have been working on next seasons cars for a very long time, lots of teams have drivers desperate to win wdc, lots of teams have had drivers move to them. . .

7upJordan would have hopes. but i dont see your reasons as any strong factors.

Mclaren will have a strong year.

1. Because I F*cking said so.
2. Because Martin F*cking Said so.

Hm, Your forgetting the fact that Brawn almost ditched Rubens before 2009.

Rubens joined Williams for one reason, he said it was his dream to drive a Williams. As for 2010 being his last year in F1 (Probably) it was about time he fulfilled his dream.

I think Williams will have the same problem they had this year, One fantastic driver & one the does bugger all.

Maybe, but I've heard the same thing about Williams every pre-season for as long as I can remember. File under "I" for "I'll believe it when I see it".

Williams had alot of money when they were in winning ways. They had Works Hondas and Renaults in the back, and they got money from winning, and got wins because of that money. They did traction control abs, active suspension, auto shifting etc. It's a classic catch 22. They don't have money now. You need money to develop a car. They don't have anywhere near the best engine either. I don't recall an engine customer winning a title since the old days when there wasn't really that distinction.

Working to a budget is hard & Williams have done it well.

I saw an article on ITV F1 website, a review of Williams over 2009. It was pretty good. But it made me realise...

They were only able to get one better than 2008, they finished 8th in 08, 7th in 09.

Still, what a fantastic job they did building that car for their budget, they probably have something around Force Indias budget of around £90million

It was entirely Nakajimas fault they didnt get at least 5th. Entirely his fault.

But hopefully they'll be stronger next year with Rubie!

I think better reasons for why things look better for Williams in 2010 include;

1. No Crashajima - enough said.
2. No Nico Rosberg to make gaffes and poor excuses.
3. Patrick Head finally has the experienced driver he's been crying out for in Barrichello.
4. Hulkenberg's GP2 form was awesome - and he's been working at the factory in between races.
5. The FW31 has been a solid car and is a good base to work from.
6. The Cosworth engine in its current state is a hell of a lot better than the Toy-slow-ta engine.

Having said that though, I feel a lot will depend on the development of the Cosworth engine over the winter, because whilst it is currently the most powerful engine, Cosworth are desperate to get the fuel consumption right, and I wouldn't be surprised if it means they might have to sacrifice some power.

The fortunes of all the Cosworth users next year could depend a lot on how the Cosworth turns out.
