Ultra-successful world rally driver Sebastien Loeb has reportedly made an approach to the new-for-2010 USF1 team.

"Somebody representing Loeb called us but I won't give details of the conversation," sporting director Peter Windsor is quoted as telling the French sports daily L'Equipe.

Ever since Loeb, 35, tested Red Bull's F1 car over the winter, his rising interest in a more serious foray has been rumoured, including recently putting his name forward as Sebastien Bourdais' Toro Rosso replacement.

Windsor added: "He is an incredible talent and he would definitely make things interesting in F1. We are looking more on the American side but are going to take him seriously."

Loeb also confirmed the USF1 approach to L'Equipe.

"I wanted to know if a team was really interested in me for F1. Someone contacted this new team but I don't know what happened.

"I am enjoying myself in the WRC and am on the verge of extending my contract with Citroen. But if I get the opportunity to do a couple of races in 2010 when the calendars don't clash then why not?"

I thought Loeb was off gonna a be a cert for a red bull backed team if he moved.

Maybe a Kimi and Loeb swap is in the offing

No because Webber & Vettel are at RBR and STR won't be Red Bull owned next season, so USF1 is the next best thing for a rookie driver as I doubt he'll want to go to FI if Sutil moves.

Do you really think STR will be sold?

That would be quiet an interesting move, but I don't think it will happen. USF1 has pretty much (according to the Speed interview with Ken Anderson the other day) that they are looking for a young American driver along an experienced F1 driver. That pretty much takes Loeb out of the running.

Still, why not JV? If he wants to put down him mic and stop singing and actually go back to racing, I think USF1 would be the perfect fit. If you can't find an quality experienced F1 American driver, then go for a quality experienced F1 Canadian.

Who knows who the American will be.

It was a lot quicker than anything else on the grid, doesn't say much for Frentzen though does it?

where is he now?

JV? Driving for Peugot in Le Mans.

I'm not sure why Scott Speed isn't being considered by US F1. He has experience in a Formula One car, he was humble, and he could be the rock star they're looking for with the right car under his butt.

HHF was in the Speedcar series apparently. With other washed up greats such as Johnny Herbert.

He can't even do anyting in NASCAR much less F1. I think he was just put there because he had (USA) next to his name and not because of talent. Basically, he sucks.

Still, the talk is either de la Rosa or Wurz as far as the experienced driver. I think they will go that way, but who knows.

What about Ralf? What has he been doing lately?
