Thinking about Broomi testing for Red Bull, when I thought struck me

Redbull/torro rosso could have a bit of a rule stretcher here

A Redbull/STR driver is ahead in point in the WDC at the 12th round but has used all 8 engines. All he would have to do is swap with a driver from the other team and still have some engines left!!!

That's a bit of a stretch indeed

I suppose the FIA will restrict the engine changes to the "car number" rather than the particular driver.

just looked the rules up and the sporting regulations say
28.4
a) Each driver may use no more than eight engines during a Championship season. Should a driver use
more than eight engines he will drop ten places on the starting grid at any Event during which an
additional engine is used.
An engine will be deemed to have been used once the car’s timing transponder has shown that it has
left the pit lane.
b) If a driver is replaced at any time during the Championship season his replacement will be deemed to
be the original driver for the purposes of assessing engine usage.
