Hi Chaps.

Ive only just joined the forum

apologise if this has been asked before,

Im wondering what races Murray Walker covered before the BBC covered the whole season?

on one of his videos it appears that he has re-done the commentary on some 50s-60s races, it doesnt appear original.

Ive never seen any complete records of what races he did and what races where broadcast live during the 50s,60s 70s and would love to find out.

cheers

Walker made his debut in 1949 alongside Max Robertson, although it wasn't until the late 1970s that each Formula 1 race was given extensive coverage on British television. He did occasional Formula 1 commentaries during the 1970s, going full-time for the 1978 season. He commentated on Formula 1 through to the 2001 United States Grand Prix at Indianapolis.

His first regular work was on radio coverage of the Isle of Man TT, initially alongside his father. After Graham's death in 1962, Murray took over the lead role. He covered motocross (initially for ITV) during the 1960s and rallycross in the 1970s and early 1980s. He occasionally commentated on motorcycle racing and rallying. Murray also covered the BTCC for the BBC between 1988 and 1997, and the Macao event for Hong Kong TV on nine occasions. [1]

This is acording to wikipedia and is what i think you were looking for.

Anyway , what do you think about Murrays return on the net next year. I think that it is great for motorsport.

thanks for replying

its those occasional races before they covered the whole season that Im trying to find out that he did.

id imagine it would have been britain, monaco and italy where shown live in the 60s early 70s?

is there a list of these races? and more importantly does the live footage still exist?

oh and Id love for him to come back :D

cheers

The ESPN Classic channel on Sky Digital channel 442 sometimes shows some "Grand Prix Classics" from the British Grand Prix held from 1970 to 1980 and Murray is the commentator, and on occasions he has Jackie Stewart alongside him in the booth.

havent watched all the discs yet but have flicked through to see whats there, did get more than I expected, some races from 68 to 74.

basic dvds in plastic cases, ie no box.

quality very good, although some are recordered from the recent espn classic programmes of the bbc wheelbase programmes, with the espn logo in the top corner.
and others are black n white and colour live footage, but quite a lot are german commentary or no commentary at all.

the best is an espn repeat of the 73 british grand prix with raymond baxter commentary, sadly no murray walker commentary.

Im guessing that the bbc got rid of theyre live tapes with Murray, raymond baxter, jackie stewart etc.

the murray motorsports mayhem video where he commentates on 50s 60s and 70s races looks as though he re recordered them for the video???
can anyone confirm this?

cheers

Mike
