Here we go. I wondered how long we'd last this year before Ferrari started their little games, well its one race! They're blaming the ECU units for their woes. Oh dear , oh dear

It's a fair point to make, though. When you implement something new in a car, it's not guaranteed to work perfectly. Renault were complaining about it even before the season started. I actually agree with the people who say it was unfair that McLaren's ECU should become the standard - it should have been designed by a completely independent company to ensure that there was no advantage or disadvantage for any of the teams.

AKR being diplomatic? Are you feeling alright? . Mclaren should not be developing this unit because they have intimate knowledge that other teams cannot. If AKR won't say it I will. That is cheating.

That is rubbish! It was tendered for and okayed before the season started. McLarten have many businesses other than F1. How do you work out its cheating? Cheating is doing something which is against the rules

I actually like diplomacy even though this is the first time I have ever shown or acted in a diplomatic way. I do not like the fact that this system is being used by all teams, but to be fair on McLaren (for once in my life) I must say that we should at least wait and see what occurs in the next few races before jumping to conclusions. And also to be fair (again to McLaren) Ferrari's reliabilties issues have been ongoing since the 2006 season, long before this McLaren half developed system came into play.

It's an unfair advantage. McLaren developed this, so they know how it will interact with their cars and engines much better than any other team would.

This in theory may be true but what I do not understand and the reason why I choose to actually be dipomatic about this is that FIA approved this. The FIA is as most of us will agree, generally in favour of Ferrari. However the theories brought up in this topic suggest that this new eletronics systems favours McLaren. It doesn't add up as to why the FIA would approve something that actually Ferrari does not approve of and actually favours McLaren. That is why I would rather wait and see wht happens next.

Regardless of whether it does actually favour McLaren or not, the point is that it could favour McLaren and that is why I have a problem with it. It really should have been an external company, like I said. That way, it would have avoided any possible future disputes between the other teams, McLaren and the FIA. As soon as ECUs start failing on a regular basis, or acting up, we'll have another political debate on our hands and that's not really something any of us want.

I'd love to have a play about with one of the ECUs, but I'd have very little idea of how it worked, because that's above my head. For now...

Unless Ferrari in secret really told the FIA to allow McLaren to co-develop the electronics system so then when Ferrari's cars stuff up they know how to blame McLaren with proof and have them excluded and fined again? Seriously though one has to draw the line somewhere. Ferrari can't really be that low to even think of some conspiracy to that degree. I just hope Ferrari's electronics do not fail too often, one because I want them to win races and 2 because they are most certainily going to blame McLaren for it and then I don't know how the FIA is going to react to this, as the FIA approved this electronics system and I would really hate to think that there is a new consipiracy going on here.

at the Melbourne race track TV they interviewed a technical employee from MES/Microsoft he had Honda's unit and explained the goings on of it. Basically its got a seal on it and the FIA is only allowed to break that seal to upload telemetry and check things out in scrutineering if necessary. no teams can open it nor attempt to change it. The teams all have the same ECU software also.
A new techincal component like this is going to take some extra development time for the teams no different to when teams all had to start over again with a new tyre supplier.
