An FIA offical will be keeping a close eye on the McLaren squad to make sure that nothing untoward happens to the chances of both Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso.

Carlos Gracia, the head of the Spanish motorsport federation – who will be attending the Interlagos finale as a guest of Dennis – told AS newspaper that he had raised concerns with FIA president Max Mosley last week.

“On October 3 I had a meeting with Max Mosley where I showed my concern about the situation Fernando is going through, which is no secret, and he reassured me,â€

It's not that I think that there should be anything but equality but what's the reason for the FIA to be involved like this, is it one of the FIAs sporting rules that the teams must give equal chances to both their drivers, something that other teams have been guilty of breaking in the past without any investigation or would it be more to do with conditions in Mclarens drivers contracts? or something else?

Having scanned through the sporting regualtions, there doesn't seem to be a mention about driver equality etc., which is exactly as I expected. Unless McLaren sent out Alonso in a car that is deemed to be dangerous to himself or other drivers, then the FIA can do nothing. Basically, the FIA are a law unto themselves. The Schumacher show did more to damage the popularity of Formula One that I can remember, but Ferrari are allowed off with that. Alonso enjoyed number one status at Renault and they got away with that. McLaren have as near perfect equality as you can get and the FIA are watching over them like hawks. Another political decision. They'll find nothing anyway but, in saying that, McLaren were still done for having no Ferrari parts on their car and a few people having some useless information.

Thanks Mclaren Fan, seems strange and the only thing I could really think of is that they are ensuring Mclaren keep to their contract with their drivers.

Ron Dennis, should tell Carlos Gracia, where to go

Perhaps Alonso's Mummy will be there to give Hamilton a good ticking-off if he upsets her little lolipop Fernando in the qualifiers.

And just when the season couldn't get any more silly, the FIA send a spanish bloke to make sure Alonso is treated fairly, and apparently make up a rule in order to do so.

Nice one!

I think McLaren should get a body involved to make sure the FIA's Carlos Gracia is independent, never mind the team!

Since 1996 either Mclaren or Williams should have had their scrutineers at the FIA to make sure they applied a the rules fairly toward all the teams!

Well, it is a fact that small kids are more comfortable with using big letters, so don't be harsh to that kid.

Well, the other one has daddy around from day one... Equal treatment of drivers requires FA having a parent present. 8)

FA's father is there, but he never appears on media, and never runs to FIA to make his son get an false advance.

Lewis' father is his manager Alonso's father is not Alonso's manager
