Here's hoping the "gremlins" get worked out now and not in the middle/end of the season!!

You are exactly right 'alex_knight'. With their inferior power unit the only way for victory this season is to have consistency, the cars mush finish the race with good points.

With Hamilton's head in a fog and giving away points to Rosberg, Ferrari needed to have their best challenger Vettel there to take advantage and finish ahead of Hamilton at least, both of them if possible. With the Merc drivers un-organized and taking points from each other (assuming Hamilton does get his focus back) Vettel might be able to do what Kimi did in 2007 and win with an inferior car.

Vettel is in real trouble though if another engine blows as there will be penalty trouble at the end of the season, then the team will have to rally behind Raikkonen to have a chance.

It is great that Raikkonen took points away from Hamilton in Bahrain but this is only helping Rosberg at this point.

To have any chance this season the damn car has to be reliable. So Ferrari has work to do. If not it will all be over early and time to watch Moto GP.

The reason for SV's kablamo
Sebastian Vettel's engine failure at the Bahrain Grand Prix was the result of a perfect storm of circumstances related to electronic mapping, Motorsport.com can reveal.

The German failed to make the start at Sakhir after his engine blew up spectacularly on the formation lap, with smoke seen billowing out from the back of his car.

Although initial suspicion had revolved around broken fuel injectors, detailed analysis at Maranello this week has confirmed it was something totally different.

The part that failed was an exhaust valve, but interestingly Ferrari technicians believe that this was the end result of the problem rather than the cause.

They believe that a problem with the engine parameters, linked to electronics management, while it was running at low speed triggered a set of circumstances that pushed the valve beyond its normal operating parameters, and caused the failure.

Ferrari's belief that an electronics issue was to blame would explain why the technicians had not discovered any problem with the power unit before the race.

Had there been any hint of concern then Ferrari would not have hesitated in changing the engine before the start.
New China engine

While the Bahrain retirement was a blow to Vettel, and means he will have to take a second engine for China, the fact that the issue has been traced to electronics means there should be no concerns about there being a fundamental design problem with the power unit.

Measures will be taken for the Shanghai race to ensure that there is no repeat of the dramas for when the Ferrari is operating at low speeds.

The analysis of Vettel's engines also confirmed that there were no similarities between his issue and the turbo failure that put Kimi Raikkonen out of the Australian Grand Prix.

Damn, we flew into Daytona @ 1.30 pm today (5th). Since the airport is right beside the track and can see what is going on inside we stuck around for awhile but didn't see anyone in a Ferrari booting around the track. Impressive track for sure.

The Associated Press
Published Thursday, February 2, 2017 8:58AM EST
MILAN -- Luxury Italian sports carmaker Ferrari says profits last year soared by 38 per cent on higher volumes of the 488 mid-engine family, which is key to the company's growth plans.
Ferrari on Thursday reported 2016 net profit of 400 million euros ($432 million), up from 290 million euros last year. Shipments last year rose by 4.6 per cent to 8,014 vehicles, while net revenues increased 9 per cent to 3.1 billion euros.
Ferrari aims to make more cars this year and is forecasting 2017 shipments above 8,400 vehicles and revenues of 3.3 billion euros.
The carmaker said fourth-quarter profits doubled to 112 million euros on a 12-per cent increase in revenues to 836 million euros, despite a 4 per cent fall in shipments to 1,940.
