Have SF moved to place Kobi somewhere nearby as a potential next driver at Ferrari? I always felt people jumped on the Perez bandwagon too fast and ignored the fact that Kobi was putting in performances every bit as good, some may say better, than Sergio did.

March 12 (Reuters) - Japan's ex-Formula One driver Kamui Kobayashi will compete in this year's FIA World Endurance Championship as the first Asian to race for Ferrari.

Ferrari said Kobayashi, who lost his seat with the Sauber F1 team at the end of last year, would drive a GT car for the AF Corse team with his first event the Silverstone six hours on April 14.

"I really hope I can aim for the title," the 26-year-old told the Ferrari website (http://www.ferrari.com).

Kobayashi was his country's sole driver in Formula One last year, finishing third in his home race at Suzuka. The new season starts in Australia this weekend without a Japanese on the grid for the first time since 2003. (Reporting by Alan Baldwin, editing by Clare Fallon)

This is one piece of SF new Spanky that I was out ahead of you on. I am was so happy when the announcement was made earlier this year, and I am one of those that felt Kobiyashi was every bit as effective (albeit in a different way) as Perez. Had he not had the misfortune he had in Spa where he qualified 2nd, he would have had as good a year as Perez points wise.

I hope to see him back in an F1 car in the near future.

For me that is just great! I support AF Corse in their respective WEC/LM category :) Any news on who he'll share a car with?

I don't think we'll see him in a Ferrari F1 car though. I have said for some time i think Hulkenberg is the man for that seat, and i still strongly think so.

Last year, Nando was pretty honest and open about when he felt he was targeting something less than a win/podium. Although he is stating we are not the fastest here, he doesn't give any indication that whatever we are down, it would prevent us fighting for a win/podium in the race.

Fernando Alonso said Friday practice for the Australian Grand Prix confirmed that Ferrari is "not the quickest".

Following the dismal pre-season campaign endured by the team in 2012, Ferrari has been more optimistic following an encouraging winter this time around. However, having finished FP2 in sixth place Alonso said Friday had proven the team still had work to do to match the pace-setters.

"I'm not expecting any major surprises here, we already knew we were not the quickest and that was confirmed today," Alonso said. "The car responds well, but we know there is still much to do if we want to fight with the very best."

With unsettled weather forecast for the weekend, Alonso said he was pleased to have had stable, dry conditions to carry out tests on Friday.

"Overall, this was a very productive Friday, as we did a lot of laps and got through an important initial analysis of the behaviour of the two types of Pirelli tyres available for this race. Our efforts were helped by particularly favourable weather with sunshine and summery temperatures. However, the weather is expected to change completely from tomorrow, with wind, rain and a significant drop in temperature, which could influence Sunday's race."

When Massa is near the top of the leaderboard, it says the car is not a handful. It looked very settled, almost planted when compared to the amount of input you saw them having to do last year just to keep the car on track. It's going to be a fight for every single spot with the top five manufacturers this year.

Did anyone watch Ted's Notebook on Sky? what was the 2 white tubes on the Ferrari wing?

You talking about the two 'tubes' visible in the 4th picture from the top? If so, they're not tubes, it's and optical illusion. They're actually the vanes at the end of the right side wing upright. If they work, I'd expect to see them in other cars PDQ as it doesn't seem too hard to implement.
