Red Bull has released the first images of its 2015 race livery, which will replace its camouflaged paint scheme used in testing.

Red Bull turned heads in Jerez when, without a traditional launch, the new RB11 broke out of the garage in dazzle camouflage. The team got the idea from Sebastian Vettel's helmet design at last year's Italian Grand Prix, but it is actually an idea that dates back to World War I when US and British navy vessels were painted in black and white stripes to help disguise their size, distance and heading from the enemy.

The new livery is much closer to Red Bull's traditional colours used since it entered the sport in 2005. The purple of title sponsor Infinity is still a feature and is prominent on the sidepods and rear wing. Fuel and lubricant supplier Total also features with red front and rear wing end plates.

In the fast-paced world of Formula 1, each race, and every season, counts. Ahead of this weekend's season-opening Australian Grand Prix, GPUpdate.net looks at why 2015 is important for those competing.

Red Bull

Red Bull emphasised the need for stability throughout its dominant period, but with Sebastian Vettel departing and Adrian Newey scaling back, it's firmly a new era for the Austrian team. Few doubt that Red Bull will have built a fundamentally strong RB11 but much will depend on how the chassis is integrated with Renault's engine, with the outfit believing the French supplier to be the primary component for its 2014 problems. Red Bull often sacrificed downforce in 2014 to minimise Renault's deficiencies – Belgium was a primary example – so a step forward is required. Reliability, which plagued Red Bull across the first half of last season, improved as the year wore on, which is naturally a positive sign.

Vettel's departure sees Daniel Ricciardo step up to the role of team leader; the Australian excelled in 2014 and it's now up to him to take it to the next level, especially as expectations will be much greater. Daniil Kvyat follows in Ricciardo's footsteps despite only having one season in Formula 1 under his belt. Ricciardo's 2014 form means Kvyat will have to perform immediately and do so in every race – there's nowhere to hide in a front-running team, and Toro Rosso's new duo will surely be snapping at his heels if he slips up. Conversely, perhaps he'll do to Ricciardo what Ricciardo did to Vettel.

Ouch!!

Image wrote:Red Bull Racing angry at Renault in Australia

Red Bull has slammed its engine partner Renault, after a difficult start to the 2015 world championship campaign in Australia. Star driver Daniel Ricciardo could not run at all in Friday's second practice session due to an engine problem, and in the morning had been just tenth fastest.

It emerges that the team will be able to repair the 'power unit', but Red Bull official Dr Helmut Marko indicated that the relationship with Renault remains fragile. "The engine is broken after 50 kilometres," he bluntly told the Austrian broadcaster ORF. "We have a meeting on Wednesday in England. Those in charge of Renault are not yet here, they're coming tonight," Marko said in Melbourne, "but it cannot be like this."

He continued: "We are promised again and again 'Next time it will be better, the test results are encouraging'. But if you have an engine failure after 50 kilometres, that is incomprehensible," Marko insisted. With all the engines, driveability is significantly worse than in testing. We wanted an improvement and we have taken a step back," he said. "The gap to the top now is frightening," added Marko.

Also openly angry after Friday practice in Melbourne was Red Bull team principal Christian Horner. "The actual power is the same as we had in Abu Dhabi last year," he is quoted by Auto Motor und Sport.

Come on now, it's not like Ferrari hasn't spat the dummy out plenty of times in this past, including the threat of quitting the sport!

It's all part of the politics of F1, the only different now is that the politics is front and center, unlike the past where it was behind closed doors as far as media coverage!

Not just political game playing. Mateschitz wants to sell, he's had enough.

I would imagine STR'S form has not helped this situation.

Surely If Mateschitz wants to sell up, that also leaves STR up s*** creek as well, but I still believe it is political manoeuvrings.

Helmut Marko:
"We are governed by an engineers' formula. We wanted cost reduction too, but it is not happening like this. A designer like Adrian Newey [who is stepping back from F1] is castrated by this engine formula. These rules will kill the sport."

I feel it's a bit late for Newey to try this approach :hehe::twisted:
