Thought it about time we chatted about him agen. He's staying put at Mercedes. And you know I admire him more for that than all his dubious wins and statistics he accumulated.
Brawn says changes being made to next years car, longer wheelbase(the short car affects the fuel tank size and when full makes the centre of gravity too high) So:-
longer car.

Exhaust regs should help

Dropping the idea of launching with a basic car and adding on

Something about rake. :P

100new staff to try to catch the first 3 teams

Got most of that info from my usual place-autosport

Schumi's pace in races is close to Rosberg. Quali is bad and he makes too many mistakes during races. So how do you think he'll fare next year? Full marks to him for sticking in there, but im not sure he has what it takes to get back on top.

I'm pretty sure Nico Rosberg will keep him in check still. I tell you what though, if Schumacher were to win just one more race... I'd be so happy for him. A momentous moment in F1 it would be an' all. :)

He's behind Rosberg in qualifying, but where it matters, ie the race, he's definitely had generally better pace than Rosberg this season (since around China/Turkey). Just has to iron out those small but costly mistakes.

I'd be surprised if Mercedes can catch up with the top 3 though.

Really? This is just an invite for the haters. Any takers on who long until this thread decends into a no go area for any Schumacher fans? I'll get in there quick with my tupence worth.

I have no faith in Merc at all. They are the new Toyota - throw huge amounts of money at their F1 team and hope to buy success. I reckon next year will be the make or break year before teh Merc board pull the plug.

Both drivers are more than capable of winning (Rosberg has come close in the past but has suffered terrible luck) and Schuamcher is definately championship material, but the car is not. They will be lucky to finish 4th in the championship.

There is nothing to choose between either driver during the races as their pace is very similar, with Schumacher being the fastest on track on a few occasions. His problem seems to be qualifying and getting the tyres upto temperature quick enough.

To be honest, Schumacher is doing exactly what he is there to do and putting him in one of their cars is one of the very few and far between smart moves that Merc have made so far. I doubt their is any better development driver around given the guy's experience and teh talk of being championship contenders was just PR, nothing more. They're not even in the same post code as Red Bull, McLaren and Ferrari in the races!

So how do you think he'll fare next year?

If Merc don't build yet another pup hten both drivers will fare very well. They are both very capable.

Full marks to him for sticking in there, but im not sure he has what it takes to get back on top.

I doubt Schumacher is someone who runs away when things are difficult. He wouldn't have or have had all the records going if he was. Given that he matches Rosberg in the race in terms of lap times then of course he has what it takes. For me the big question mark is over Merc. For me, they were the disappointment of the season last year and they look like retaining this dubious honour this year.

I am also worried about Merc's long-term commitments if things don't go as planned (which they aren't). Like most other car manufacturers have shown us, it's either success right away or exit. Hey, but at least they've taken on the right Schumacher (unlike Toyota).

They will be lucky to finish 4th in the championship.

I still think they'll retain 4th. I mean, Renault are still some points behind and are doing even worse!

I'm not so sure. Stick Petrov in front of Alonso and he goes like stink! :hehe:

Renault are only 14 points behind. All it needs is a double pointer for Renault and nil points for Merc.

Surely it would be more correct to just say that they're still Honda? :P

Given a competitive enough car, or at least one that doesn't eat its tyres and the right set of circumstances, and Schumacher will be capable of winning a race. I think the new approach he's come back with has lifted any pressure, so he can perform without worrying that he must prove himself and that ought to be in his favour. The question, really, is whether or not the team can build a good enough car. With the exception of 2004 and 2009, they've not exactly come up with much, although a lot of the old Honda staff were released and the new hundred may prove to be better, but it will take time and if they are to build a championship-winning team, it's more likely that Rosberg will benefit than it is Schumacher will. Like most others, however, I'd love to see him win at least one more race before he retires again. :)

Maybe if they reintroduced TC? He had it for majority of his career, even at Benetton :hehe:

When he was fighting for a podium in Canada the crowd was going crazy, (myself included) he is who he is synonymous with the sport, and he is still a very capable F1 driver with tremendous race instinct.

I'm not completely sold on whether or not he'll return next year, and I've always claimed that Mercedes will give him an elegant out by perhaps having him become part team owner or something along those lines.

Rosberg has been able to consistently out score him and out qualify him, and that says it all.

Well he's said he has no intention of quitting.

I just hope he picks a good place to stop. Ideally, such a legend would end on a high... if there's one on the horizon....

He needs to get in a Red Bull then. Merc are a disaster now and they will be a disaster next year.

But that's also assuming that RBR will be good next year. I also think they'll be competitive, but with F1, you never know....
