Many F1 fans are excited by the prospect of more street circuits being added to the Formula 1 calendar. However, Ferrari test driver Marc Gene is not amongst those championing these new circuits, stating that he believes that their introduction would be against the sports push for better safety.

Now is it just me who thinks that Marc Gene is is a big girl?!! Im all for safety, but for christ sakes if you want to race cars at over 200mph for a living, then your going to have so get your head around the fact that you could get pretty badly hurt if things go wrong. And if you cant do that then try a safer sport . . . like snooker or chess.

Can you imagine the fuss that would be made if in F1s "push for safety" the Monaco GP was deemed unsafe?!

So Marc Gene, shut your face and do your job, because I'm sure someone else will do it if your to scared!

What did Marc Gene do apart from finish 5th in a Minardi at Nurburgring in 1999 in a race of attrition??

Why is he scared to drive a car around a track that's also a street? For God sakes man, your protected like a baby, safer then a baby sleeping in a crib. Try driving a Ford Explorer around real city streets, much more dangerous.

I just hope the new street circuits aren't just replicas of Monte Carlo. Still, snooker or chess is probably more dangerous than F1 these days. You've more chance choking on a rook than being carried out of a racetrack on a stretcher.

people forget Melbourne is a street circuit, theres no major issues there its as safe as any other track!

I think street circuits have a better atmoshere for the fans being closer to the city cbd or beach etc and some street circuits have alot of right angled corners after long straights which allow for passing. not all streets are like monte carlo

Isn't Melbourne technically called a "Road Race"?

Personally, I'm all for more street circuits. I'm extremely interested in the proposed Las Vegas one that was gonna use the Strip as a back straight. I know it'll never happen, but can you imagine it?! It would be amazing!

As long as they don't do an encore on a parking lot of a casino like in the past (that was just Mickey Mouse), I'm all for a second USGP in Vegas.

considering the road is used by cars during the year would make it a street circuit wouldnt it? it looks sweepy and course like due to it following the lake.

I thought it had to have like buildings all around and as such be on streets? Meh. I think the owners call it a park circuit. It's not important. It's just a name
