Even the drivers including Alonso said there was absolutely no point him turning up just to test tyres, thats why it appears as though the race drivers can now test parts, which is why Merc took a stand

Formula One racing’s governing body, the FIA, has confirmed that the upcoming young driver test at Silverstone will not be extended in to a fourth day and will instead remain a three-day session beginning July 17.

Following the tyre failures in the 2013 Formula 1 Santander British Grand Prix, the FIA decided to make changes to the Silverstone test, permitting race drivers to take part, provided that their running is limited to testing Pirelli’s revised tyres.

There had been discussions about extending the test to a fourth day to allow for extra tyre running, but the FIA has decided to keep to the original dates.

Pirelli will be providing teams with extra sets of their revised tyres, which are the 2012-specification construction combined with the 2013 soft, medium and hard compounds. However, teams have been reminded that any set-up changes that are made to cars when a race driver is at the wheel must be related to tyre testing, not to improve the car.

Mercedes are the only team that will not have the opportunity to test the revised tyres. The Brackley-based squad were excluded from attending the Silverstone session for breaching F1 regulations by taking part in a private 1000-kilometre tyre test with Pirelli following the Spanish Grand Prix.

I think this talk off the race drivers being allowed to test new parts was just a rumour, anyway, here's the current position for you, no new parts being tested by the drivers.

If Alonso doesn't think it's worth going to, well it suggests, it is just a PR stunt then, the guy won't pass up a chance to get an advantage, so basically, no extra disadvantage to Mercedes from the extra parts of the young drivers test.

One could argue it is still suitable, the teams just get to test their race drivers in response to the tyre safety problem, under restricted conditions, which will benefit Mercedes through the data and insight that gets back to Pirelli and not really advantage any teams,

one "could" argue that but you've seemingly spent a lot of time arguing just the opposite when it was Mercedes doing the testing and other teams being left out in the cold.

I had to do a double take because for a second there you sounded just like another forum member. It's best to let the whole thing go because at this point the only purpose for continuing to beat the dead horse is vengeance.

Accept that you were wrong about Mercedes getting the book thrown at them and move on.

I said before, lock the thread if you feel it's needed, or let other people discuss it, basically, if you are going to act like a mod, do it properly, not just give orders.

Well, Mercedes test was done in a covert manner, and against the regulations, they were the only team to test at that time, this time all the other teams will be testing, there isn't much of a shot for an advantage for one team over another.

If it was modding you'd know it, I'm allowed to participate as a civilian you know I don't show up here just to mod. My observation is there's been little contribution to move the discussion forward and at this point you've gone full circle in your own arguments simply to justify your position.

Don't take it personally, I'm not singling you out, but simply found your quoted response above about what could be argued hilarious.
