If that's what you meant, my answer's the same but the reason is first rear-engined WDC. If you meant the first race that would be 1958, Argentina, Stirling Moss.

Yes the question was concerning the position of the engine and the first victory for a rear engined car.

Smokin' has had a lucky guess and got it right with Stirling Moss and the 1958 Argentinian GP. Over to you Smokin'. :clap:
