Quote from Luca di Montezemolo to the official Ferrari Website:-

"Felipe is and will always stay a number one driver for Ferrari," di Montezemolo told the official Ferrari website.

"I expect the performances of a number one driver from him - both in the next four races and, with different tyres, next year. Those will be crucial to bring us wins next season and to take important points from our opponents in the battle for this world championship."

Forza Ferrari

So Luca wants Felipe to win the next four races; that's what the #1 driver is expected to do isn't it? I know you'll feel differently but that is simply a marketing sound bite!

He wants Felipe to perform like a number one driver, just prove he can do it and pull over and let Alonso through if he's directly behind him.

Well, far be it from me to agree with you, but, I did hear that Felipe was studying and copying Jenson's start from Singapore, the "brake hard when you see you're in front of your teammate" maneuver he's calling it.

You're clutching at straws here Spanky. Why not just accept what Ferrari do and stop worrying about it eh.

Perhaps you've forgotten my dear, I not only accept it, I embrace it, I praise it, I love it. Nothing would make me happier than Nando to win by less than 7 points this year

You want an empty champion my dear, thats fine. But no need to try to place Ferrari's antics on other teams that dont do it.

Well cutie, I have to admit it would be a long shot for Ferrari to pull it off, but, rest assured, if they did it wouldn't in any way be empty for me, I'd love it!
Perhaps you had your eyes closed for the run to turn-1 from the start at Singapore, hehehe
Try listening to Brundles "real time" commentary as it happened, it might start raising even your eyebrows :D

I watched it sweetie, eyes were wide open and l listened to the commentary; but Im not discussing it on a Massa thread. You want to discuss McLaren non team orders then you'll need to start a new thread :)

Fair enuf boss, time for me to get some shut-eye and dream about ..... those 7 points making the difference .... good night

So what exactly is it ferrari want of Massa? Hungary 4th to Alonso's 2nd(took points off Button). Spa,good drive to 4th, Alonso spun out. Monza 3rd ahead of Webber and vettel and dealt with hamilton on the first lap. Singapore drove himself into the points. So Id say hes doing exactly what he needs to be doing and taking points off the competitors. Oh  shock horror, its not enough? What you want, Massa faster, Mr. Montezemelo? What say about two tenths faster? Bring him onto your golden boys pace and you dont want golden boy upset.

Massa has never had the pace of the golden boy. You can't blame Ferrari for backing the faster driver any more than anyone could blame McLaren for moving Heikki out of dear sweet Hammy's way in 2008. What does Ferrari want from Massa? They want him to be as fast as Alonso. Of course they do...but he isn't, he hasn't been....and more than likely he will never be. Some things are just true...even if you hate the other driver. Alonso is faster than Massa. No voodoo or wishful thinking will change that. He is faster and Ferrari's hopes have to ride with their fastest driver...just like every other team on the grid.

Although, Montezemolo hasnt said "Massa needs to go faster" as Racechck is implying.

You seem to have missed the point. I didnt say he was faster, or even as fast, I said he was 2 tenths off. So why is Montezemelo bitchin at him? If he goes 2 tenths faster he will be on golden boys pace and golden boy will crack, thats not what they want. So Montezemelo should count his luckies instead of griping at Massa. (And Why are you bringing Hamilton and Heiki into a thread about massa...AGEN!)

"I have waited for Felipe with great perseverence in the last four races. I want a strong Massa who will shave points off the rivals" Montezemelo.
Kind of implieshe isnt satisfied with his pace and wants him to go faster.

I think Luca is simply stating what they expect of Massa.
But yes, Massa has not been as fast as Alonso. Not consistently at least. He's had a couple good races, but you cant really say he's in a good shape. In fact, i bet even Massa knows he's not as fast as he can be.

No, Im sure he's aware he's a couple of tenths off. If the car and tyres were more to his style he'd be there. But despite that what does Luca expect? The extra 2 tenths to bring him onto Alonsos pace? He wants war?Or has alonso and his gang got that sewn up? Look back to my quote about his achievemnets in the last four races that Luca's bitchin about, they arent bad.

Possibly those 2 tenths could also be put down to driving style? I think if Massa does not have the perfect setup he will always be down 2 tenths. Alonso like Schumacher could always find those extra 2 tenths out of shear determination in a subpar car but more so at being willing to push the car over/exceed it's limits while still maintaining control and feel, just my opinion but it sounds right. :)

Giving Schumacher those extra couple of tenths that he can find from a sub par car through sheer determination, then this year's car REALLY doesn't suit him.
