I'm sorry the race ended and he got away only with the 10 grid penalty for Spa. It looks like had they had a extra bit of time to review the tape, the race stewards were going to black flag him as well!

Look on the bright side; if he had gotten black flagged in Hungary; he would have not lost anything as he was out of the points anyway, at least he will be punished by a grid penalty at Spa; which will dent his hopes of finishing in the points, the best he can hope for is 11th should he conjure some magic and qualify on pole position, but realistically given his performances so far this season; he is looking at starting somewhere between 16th and 20th.

we all know that michael is a hard racer, but you have to be fair and that attempted block was just not good to be showing to young karters and car drivers across the world!, like martin brundle said, if he was going to block, then he needed to be up against the pit wall before rubens even got there.! a penalty for spa was the minimum, he can count himself extremely lucky

Exactly what i thought. A black flag would have been purely cosmetic.
so i guess this time its was ok ace control took so long to evaluate the case.

BTW
Is it just me, or are they taking excessively long this season to hand out penalties??

They do seem to be taking much longer; I think that penalties should be swift; within three laps of the transgression; same amount of time the driver has to serve the penalty.

:clap::clap:

If it takes them longer than three laps to decide there was a penalty....then it couldn't have been too blatant.

Schumacher has been unfairly penalised.
What about Kubica entering the pit lane on the inside of Sutil in Canada?
What about Hamilton and Vettel in the pit lane in China?
These incidents resulted in slapped wrists - and Schumacher gets a 10-place grid penalty?
Where is the justice in that?

Different 'guest' steward at each race plus a local steward. Consistency may suffer.

We must look forward, comrade, instead of dwelling on the past!
But seriously, I'm going to say that they got a much harsher penalty than a "slap on the wrist", with all due respect. I'm sure they were fined a lovely amount. Although I guess a fine could be considered a slap on the wrist. But still, no team (or no person) likes to lose money, especially for a mistake.
I agree, dayummm, 10-place grid penalty is harsh, but in my opinion, what he did was pretty disgusting so he kind of deserves something like that. Plus there are different stewards at different races. They are the almighty ones

I vote for this as the best first post ever. No ranting or name calling...just straight forward logic. Not necessarily saying you are right...but your post does make me look back at those incidents and I have to agree that they were equally poor judgement. They were not, on the other hand, at the same rate of speed as Schuey's lapse in judgement and therefore not as dangerous to man and machine....but your point is well taken. They were incidents of forcing a driver off track in order to better your own race agenda.

I can't say that I'm in 100% agreement with your point, but then again I can't say I disagree either. Anytime Schuey gets penalized (or hamilton)....I have to admit that it brightens my day a little....but still, you make a valid point.

That's one hell of an impact; think that'd be a knockout punch if it weren't for the fact that Schumacher's actions were premeditated; he was looking in his mirrors and waited until Barrichello was alongside before making the blocking move, that's the way most see it including the stewards. This is not the first time this season that Schumacher has made some dangerous moves; Schumacher is getting increasingly desperate; risking a man's life for one point. Fair punishment; trust me it could have been a lot worse, a 10 place grid penalty is getting off lightly, Schumacher admitted his mistake and has accepted the punishment so he obviously thinks the punishment is fair as neither his team or himself are planning on appealing the decision!

Kubica, Hamilton and Vettel were 'reprimanded' for the incidents mentioned - nothing more.
I guess the comment on different stewards at different races is valid.
Perhaps drivers should pay attention to how far they can push things at different tracks.
SImilar to the way football players/coaches study the referees, to see where they need to be careful.
I don't think the penalty was too harsh - just unballanced.
With so much at stake, there needs to be a way to ensure consistancy.
Over to you, Jean Dodt...

I would definitely agree with punishments being unbalanced; there has been some shocking mistakes by stewards this season, There needs to be uniformity in the rules and punishments. The FIA stewards have become a bit of a joke recently with the disparity of punishments handed out or not handed out as the case has been!
#210744
I think that the stewards have been much better this season than in the last few season when they've made some shocking decisions!, like when lewis when unfairly given a time penalty for been forced over the last chicane at spa, passed him, gave the place back and overtook and got penalised! but with the drivers help they are now getting more decisions right! which can only be a good thing for the sport itself, :)
