Back to topic gentlemen or else... :whip:

this is like being back at school TBH, do this dont do that, if you talking in a thread and it goes off topic what do you expect us to do go searching the archives looking for a thread on the relevant subject?

i was beginning to like it here but this closing threads because they have gone off topic is like a bloody dictatorship! :(

DD, no offense, but wouldn't Moderating time be better spent putting out any of the numerous fires that start on the forum rather than having a go at every topic which dares to deviate slightly? I wouldn't say anything, but this is the second topic I've seen getting cracked down on for this tonight and it strikes me as odd when irrelevant arguments are allowed to run on for pages sometimes. And I would even argue that this discussion has hardly gone off topic, since the appeal of various sports has an undeniable relation to whatever impact Brawn/Ferrari/McLaren/Whoever dominating for a period has.

Yes, we're always going off on a tangent, but usually come back to the topic on hand. If not, the thread and its topic seem to have gone past their expiration date (or else we would still discuss the topic, wouldn't we?). Put yourself in the shoes of somebody who hasn't posted in such a thread, finds the topic interesting and starts reading the thread only to find it's gone way off and there's little chance to actually discuss the topic anymore. How frustrating is THAT?

What do you think we've been doing all the time, eh?
In many cases the pages-long fires occur when mods are not around or else you'd see interventions!

Back on topic.

Would it not then be more productive simply to post more directly in relation to the topic, as opposed to simply saying "Back on topic or there will be no topic", since the nuclear option actually makes it impossible for your hypothetical user to get a word in, whereas if you left it be they could still quite easily respond and it's entirely likely be responded to.

i havent posted in the thread that was closed but had been following it and still enjoyed reading it even though it had gone a bit off topic

theres less chance to discuss it when its closed :(

How frustrating is THAT?

Wouldn't it be more productive simply to start a thread in Anything Else rather than General F1 Discussion if you want to discuss football or other sports?
