1 lap means nothing in the race, it's about the whole thing. The McLaren is a poor machine, Lewis punched well above its weight

Who cares about Hammy and Trulli, the whole field got seriously Brawned.
Why does just about every thread in here degrade to jabs over being blind sheep for team X?
ps: Vettel and Robert should've both played it cool at that stage of the race given what was at risk

Well for one, they are the main talking points of the race:
Brawn 1-2
The Trulli DQ
Lewis's drive
Vettel and Kubica's incident

However it is annoying that there are so many threads being created on the same topic. At the same time it is fine to talk about them.

it's the race stewards who need penalized for inconsistent handling of situations and not listening to both sides...

http://formula-one.speedtv.com/article/ ... rulli-past

"Lewis Hamilton has said that McLaren told him to let Jarno Trulli back past after the pair had swapped places under the safety car in Australia.
While the track was under caution Trulli slid wide and onto the grass, so Hamilton was obliged to pass him. Lewis says that the team then asked him to let Trulli back by, presumably because the team feared a penalty."

It's pretty sad that the results (and the championship which could be decided by a single point again!) are dictated by everyone trying to get an instant interpretation of how the stewards will interpret the rules today. At Spa last year, McLaren got clarification from the race officials on whether Hamilton should have given the position back only to find out the stewards and race officials interpreted it differently... now we have McLaren afraid to take the position and Toyota losing ALL race points for Truli because of it... what a bunch of bull...

combine that with the new rule about maintaining a certain speed during the safety car (Rubens being told he was too fast)...

So that would indicate that Jarno should not have been penalised.

correct... the stewards should look at the situation and just simply decide which of the two should be classified ahead... there was no ill intent from either side... no penalty needed...

I wonder if Toyota's appeal would go through, then. I doubt it, because of the rules on appealing drive-throughs, but it would be nice if it did. Jarno very much deserved that third-place finish.

Unbelieavable. He can do crap all weekend, drive a conservative race and ends up on the podium in the end. "Lucky" doesn't quite cut it when it comes to Hamilton.

I didn't see footage of the incident, but I'm inclined to say if Truli slid off track he should probably end up 4th... but certainly not 12th!!! Would be nice if the stewards were more interested in the correct result instead of handing out arbitrary penalties... and it one of them had stopped to let the other one back to the correct position, I'm sure the stewards would find a way to penalize that too :banghead:

They should have a strong case. Here's hoping.

They should clarify their rules then this nonsense wouldn't happen! They should have just switched him to 4th not penalised him right out of the points.

He shouldn't have been demoted in the first place!

Agreed, very harsh to have taken him out of the points

Their rules are not to pass a car under safety car or yellow flag conditions. However, if the stewards imposed the penalty without consulting both sides, then they weren't to know that McLaren told Lewis to let Jarno through. Jarno should not have been penalised at all if this is the case.
