When the most exciting thing to happen during a GP takes place in the pit lane, you know it won't go down as a classic. I was expecting great things from this race, but it just failed to deliver for one reason or another. A GP shouldn't have to rely on rain or a safety car to make it enjoyable, although many nowadays do. Still, I'll give Valencia a few more years before I completely give up on it.
Onto the race. I said last week that I just couldn't see Felipe Massa's name up in the hall of fame alongside all those brilliant champions. But he's doing his best to ram those words down my throat. All credit to him, he was magnificent today and completely deserved his win. He's outclassed Raikkonen so far this season and deserves to be made the main man who will go head to head for the WDC with Hamilton.
Lewis drove a smart race; he was easily the second fastest and getting consistent points on the board at the tracks where the Ferraris are faster is how you win a championship, as long as you take your opportunities at GPs where you have the advantage. Past races suggest he can do that ruthlessly almost all the time.
Vettel had a fantastic weekend, well done to him. Heikki has been outclassed by Lewis for almost the entire season, and he really needs to pick up his act. I keep saying, you can only put so much down to bad luck, and without an extreme dose of good luck he wouldn't even have a race win on the board. I want to see him do well, because he's a good guy, but it's results that talk in F1.
I have no idea what's happening with Kimi. Despite the fact that he seems to have been poor for months now, the guy is still somehow in touch with the WDC (just), even after today. It is amazing how he does that, but he needs a good performance at Spa to get his challenge back on track.
Overall the race was a let down, and Ferrari get away with a decision which really should have cost them on the track, not in their massive pocket. But I wouldn't begrudge Massa his victory today. Bring on Spa. I'm hoping for some traditional rain
