Why does that mean he is going any where? Why can't it just be other teams
appreciating what the man can do and saying so?

Cuz the last time this happened, it was Uncle Ron extolling virtues and Alonso ended up at McLaren…and a dreadful time was had by all.

Uncle Ron, as you call him, had his finger in too many pies, at the time.

McLaren may have signed Alonso; but, they backed their "home grown"
when push came to shove. Hamilton was a possible "Cinderella" story;
unfortunately, the clock struck midnight a little too soon.

Another thing to consider is that although both are terribly competitive,
both Alonso and Hamilton have changed/matured/grown over the years.

btw... that was the year Kimi was crowned WDC, and I was over the moon!!

I'm thinking that Alonso would be flattered by such comments and why not?
Those accolades are for the best driver on the grid, who has put in amazing
drives in a car that hasn't been as competitive as others have been over the
past few years.

Why does that mean he is going any where? Why can't it just be other teams
appreciating what the man can do and saying so?

I'm sure Alonso will feel flattered by the comments, but one wonders why they were said by a man in the position he is in when he already has the best driver in his team and a very able other driver. He can't have got to where he has in his business by being stupid, so one wonders at his motives.

1. The man is stupid. ( seems unlikely)
2. His comments were misquoted or taken out of context ( very likely)
3. He was stirring the pot a little for Ferrari ( entirely possible)

No. They expected Alonso to be faster and favoured him initially. They only equalised treatment went Hamilton proved to be as fast or faster. At the end after the blackmailing of the team then yes support shifted to Lewis.

I don't believe we've heard the whole story, so I won't comment on this!

That may be my only real disappointment this year…Kimi not doing well, or as well as I had imagined. I suppose still early days. He did have a reasonably good showing in Spain, barring of course the feelings of inequity over the whole pitstop sequencing bit. The car seems to be coming to him so lets see how he goes.

I doubt the real and big boss of Mercedes has any need to stir/screw things up at Ferrari - they seem to have done a fine job of that all on their own over the recent past. :hehe:

On the possibility of this signifying real overtures from Mercedes to Fernando, IMO it makes great business sense for Mercedes to go after Fernando. The most obvious benefit is that he would not be driving for a competitor.

As I mentioned previously, for the general F1 fan, that would be great for the sport - to see the two F1 driver titans going head to head in the best machinery on the grid would indeed be awesome.

If there is any truth to the possibility of Nando moving to Mercedes then Ferrari really has to get behind Kimi.

Sounds like you're disappointed that Kimi isn't beating Alonso, more than anything else!!
Personally, I was hoping that the fireworks this season were going to be at Ferrari and not at Mercedes!

Oh there were fireworks at Ferrari this year alright, but they were between Luca and Stefano. :hehe:

Rosberg has signed for another year with Mercedes, so big Merc boss wasn't making overtures to Alonso.

So that leaves us with.......
Stupidity, misquoted, pissing off Ferrari or all of the above.

Sounds like misquoted is looking a hot one.

Just because this is the "Silly Season" thread, I'll mention that Kimi also had a contract, before Alonso came on board!

Not sure if I'd say "misquoted" so much as "taken out of context", eh?

Not really... since Domenicali was a dud as TP! :whip:
