£80 million...that's enough to buy about 100,000 caravans for the scum living over in Leeds...

I'm not really upset...but exciting times for United £80 million from Ronaldo, £40 million for annual transfer funds and £10-20 million from the sale of players...

About £100 million for United to spend over the next two seasons, I say two because the transfers will likely to be paid over instalments...

If United sign Valencia, I will well and truly get pissed off :(

80 million pounds.....

And Max thinks there is a global financial crisis and we have to introduce budget caps to save F1.
(sorry, a little off-topic there)

If they are just going to pay 80m to talk to him, how much are they going to pay him when/if he actually plays??????

Football is a completely different game to F1 (obviously), football is a much bigger global sport than F1; Bernie and Max can only dream of that sort of worldwide following. Real Madrid and Manchester United don't have problems filling their stadia; F1 is having serious problems filling stadiums right now and with Bernie's extortionate pricing to host GPs, races could easily disappear. Football is a way of life for many, Formula 1 is like a hobby that people indulge in when the have cash to spare.

Heh, not to mention throwing your toys out the pram when your manager substitutes you...

He's not worth 80m though, Man U just (rightfully) took advantage over Real Madrid's 'more money than sense' policy. To answer you question properly, the very top players are worth so much no just for their ability, but for merchandising potential and the like... pretty much the same criteria as the top F1 drivers. It's just that there are a lot more footballers on crazy money than there are F1 drivers!

The likes of Abramovich are going to be the death of football as we know it, all this money will surely cause an almighty implosion at some point like it has in F1.

F1 drivers get way more per year from the sport itself (salary).
But nobody, not one person on the planet is worth millions of pounds.

Rumor has it that Man U have signed Tom Daley as Ronaldo's long term replacement...
