Way to go to put a spin on it...

"I am trying to maintain a good harmony amongst everybody," he told the Daily Telegraph. "I have tried to avoid controversy. I could have leaked the letter but it's between him and the FIA.

"My office was next to the stewards. Every time I went to see them I avoided making any comment. For me what Lewis said was unacceptable but I didn't want to overreact. I could have asked our judicial court to address the problem but we never officially opened the case. He went to the stewards to apologise. He went with his father.

"Maybe it would have been better to put him in the court; to ban him for six grands prix. But he wrote to me and I wrote to him and the thing is over."

Hamilton will face the media for the first time since the incident on Thursday in the FIA press conference, alongside Maldonado.

Even contemplating banning him for 1 GP let alone 6 is what's unacceptable Jean. Will this occur any time a driver says something that you deam unacceptable? Doubt it.

Hamilton could get a six race ban. Todt said it on his last interview.

Todt is quickly turning into an idiot. Between saying stupidities like that and wanting Bahrain back this year, way to go.

Agreed. A race ban for being a racing driver with an opinion  !!!! Lewis got his drive thru and did not like it and voiced his concern but then again the tone of his dismay is something I do not think anyone here knows and that may be the issue. Lewis paid his dues with the penalty, case closed imho.

Also to racechick I'm busting your chop's simply because you never believe Lewis makes mistakes but last time I checked he is still human and prone to making them. I and a few other's know this is true so I find it hard to fathom how you constantly blame others for Lewis's mistakes.

Good debate and hey it's still rather civil :hehe: . Ok now bust mine I can take it because I'm also only human and only right 99.99% of the time :D . Anywho as I mentioned before I hope or do not think that Monaco put Lewis out of the WDC hunt and I would rather see him win it than Vettel as I think he is a much better driver but that is neither here nor there in relation to this thread.

FIA president Jean Todt has said that although Lewis Hamilton escaped punishment over his outburst in the aftermath of the Monaco Grand Prix it might have been better to give him a ban. "He wrote to me and it was between him and the FIA," Todt said. "Maybe it would have been a better decision to send him to the judicial court and ban him for six grands prix or something but for me this thing is over." (Press Association)

Bit in bold is telling I think, Todt was joking surely? Those are massive overstatements, he was basically using it to play down the fury, saying its no big deal by exaggerating the punishments to Hamilton in order to make punishing him look silly.

Wrong. Of course lewis makes mistakes. I just dont consider trying to overtake slower cars to be one of them, but sure he makes mistakes.
You see Tex, you have a fundamental problem with your diagnosis of my 'biased opinion'. You think I have this thing for lewis and in my eyes he can do no wrong, therefore when he drives as he does I accept it because it is Lewis. Incorrect. I have a style of driving I like, its a driver who is fast, who can drag a poor car up the grid, who can overtake, a racer, an exciting driver. And lewis fits the bill at the moment, Kobi does too actually, but lewis is my favourite. Montoya was, he fit the bill too. But dont try to say I defend that style because Im biased about the driver. I defend that style becuse its what I like to see. Leiws is the best current provider of what I like in a racing driver. Chicken and egg Tex

His worst mistake in Monaco what qualifying on Saturday. Other than that, the race was better than he could have wound up with!

I was banking on him getting at least a 5th place....as I remember DC starting dead last and getting 5th by the end. That was awesome.

A short story does not release you from the snare you stumbled into year's ago. My point has been proven by... get ready for it...YOU!!

Most important though is that you know I'm busting your chop's and then you bust mine, that's what friends do right? :)
