I think that Formula One should move away from petrol eventually, and, until then, fuel limits should be introduced. However, you cannot seriously limit fuel usage without completely changing the engine regulations. It's almost as a bad a gimmick as the green circle around the wall of the tyres.

You certainly can by dropping those stupid engine regulations altogether and replacing them with the fuel limit rule. If somebody wants to use a V12 with 3.8lt displacement, have at it and see where it gets you in the race. My bet would be on a small hybrid with turbo or somtin'...

And at the end of the day, you never know somebody might be able to make such a fuel-thirsty engine somehow last a very long time, miracles can happen.

A 2.0ltr turbo is being considered for 2013 which can be used in various configuration's ie different level's of motorsport's.

I was thinking along the lines that the FIA would have things such as engine displacement enshrined within the regulations and more or less uniform across the grid. Regardless of whether there are regulations are not, to seriously reduce fuel consumption, big changes are going to be required to the engine formula, which is surely going to cost a lot. Personally, though, I think it's an area worth putting a lot of money into. We all know about the environmental considerations, and the West's relationship with the Middle East. But, from a sporting point view, the engine regulations bore me to tears, as they've been fundamentally the same since 1989, and we've come as far as we can with the aerodynamics. Sure, the aerodynamics could be developed a little more, but it is unlikely there will be too many more breakthroughs, and the turbulent air which results from the parts is preventing bread and butter things like overtaking.

Yeah maybe they'll allow peeing into the fuel tank during pit stops and the engine hums along :P

Of course KR would be prohibited to join in the peeing fest as that would provide him with an unfair advantage re. illegal additives such as vodka, etc. 8-)

That idea disgusts me.

The only engines in F1 should be for F1 cars only.
