But of course, with the second and third races being held under extreme conditions, I would not say that the figures from those races give any kind of idea.

Cheers for that - and yeah, i agree, i was just going to ask for Aus but seeing as we're here...

Sorry I don't buy any of it and could never think that KERS is good for the sport, With all the teams and F1 managers looking for ways to cut costs to save the sport, KERS goes in the wrong direction, Gimmicks like a push to pass button do the same thing. Reducing the rear wing and putting the cars back on slicks is what has made passing possible this year not KERS. I've asked for statistics to prove me wrong but I haven't seen any yet, I'd also like to see some top speed figures between KERS cars and non KERS cars, I suspect that the KERS cars lack of balance through the turns and slower cornering speed negate the extra boost they get with the KERS system.

From Sunday's race, posted on another forum.

KERS analysis:
KERS passed non-KERS: 9
KERS passed KERS: 1
non-KERS passed non-KERS: 42
non-KERS passed KERS: 8

Thank you for posting that. I think it proves one of my points quite well.....our new outbreak in F1 passing has nothing to do with the KERS system. So those of you Pro-KERS, can now drop that argument.
( I think at least half of the KERS passing non KERS and visa versa was LH going by KR and KR going past LH LOL )

Do those overtakes include ones when people fell off the track? You also got to remember that there were only 3 KERS cars on the track compared to 17 non-KERS cars so I think the the top and bottom statistics count most.

No. The guy quite kindly omitted anything that wasn't a real overtaking move.

I'd say that the top and bottom Stats meant the least, There were 42 passes of non KERS cars passing non KERS cars they don't need it to pass or to make the racing more exciting it's a big waste of time and money.

You're taking a race that would not be a good example of KERS-usage. The fact that there were only three cars using it and their ability to use it was limited by the amount of water on the track, means that this race is not a good one to judge by.

Seems like KERS has nothing to do with all the passing this year, Especially considering the stats of non-KERS passing KERS.
I stand firm on believing it's just a big waste of time and money, and the sport doesn't need any more money issues.

I think the next two races will be a better judge of the KERS system. Bahrain and Catalunya-wn rarely have safety car periods, there's practically no chance of rain at Bahrain, last time it rained at Catalunya-wn was 1996.

I'm looking at the stats for all 3 races (thanks again for finding those) and it seems that KERS only helps when passing non KERS and only by a very small margin. If all the cars ran KERS it wouldn't be helping with the amount of passing at all. The stats clearly show that the cars without KERS don't need it to pass. Which brings me back to KERS is a big waste of time and money.

Well the season is getting on, it'll be race 4 this weekend. Only 12 after that to go. The Manufacturer teams have to find a solution quick or they will have no chance to win the championship. Each race weekend their chance passes.

Good in theory..terrible in application. A waste of money in my opinion. In a real formula "boost" should come from the earo and the driver being able to pick up a tenth here and there. Leave the boost buttons for the PS3!!!

a true motorsport fan wouldnt belittle A1

Oh yes, because it's absolutely the kind of thing every other motorsport aspires to. How dare someone who claims to like motorsport dislike a category full of gimmicks and which defies its own premise?

If this is the way you're going to argue your case, I'm not going to bother discussing it with you.

Have you even watched a race? or are you just basing your opinion on the regs and drivers involved? You see im aracing fan, I watched the last race of A1 and it had very entertaining racing key word for a motorsport fan! so whats your problem? Talk of gimmicks, maybe A1 can bring in moveable wings and green striped tyres with a hell of alot of politics getting headlines instead of the racing key word for a motorsport fan!
Yeah its no F1 but so what? There was some good battles! Whats wrong with a push to pass button? it has a tactical game of cat and mouse with driver to driver choosing when to use it and when not to. its another tool for the driver to take advantage of.

btw get over your higher than thou talk would ya boy its getting old!!:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::hehe:

Mercedes eyes role as sole KERS supplier
Haug critical of BMW’s current split KERS policy

Like BMW, Mercedes-Benz may also be interested in becoming the sole supplier of standard Kinetic Energy Recovery Systems in Formula One next year.

FIA President Max Mosley is against on the idea of standardising the energy re-use technology, but it was reported last month that BMW might be eager to take up the Formula One Teams' Association’s plans for a common KERS next year.

BMW Sauber is not even using KERS on both its cars at present due as the gains do not outweigh the cons for Robert Kubica: a strategy that makes little sense to Mercedes' racing chief Haug.

From Stuttgart on Tuesday, Mercedes' Norbert Haug said it is ‘surprising’ that despite BMW's total enthusiasm about implementing the technology this year, only German rival Mercedes has so far been totally committed to using it at races.

As for FOTA's eagerness for a standard KERS solution from 2010, he added: "We would have interest in being the supplier."

Standardising KERS would be terrible, how is that helping road car development? How is that allowing for technical evolution? What would that mean for Williams.

Is that related to the whole budget cap thing though?

I'd expect that standard KERS will be alongside the standard engine proposals.
IMO it's terrible though, where is the technical freedom now? I hate how new teams could easily climb up the grid using others handy work.
