Didn't DC say in the Malaysian GP coverage that drivers are not normally briefed by the team before going to stewards meetings? For me, Ham Boy led the charge and Ryan had to take the fall because he is far more expendable than Hamilton.

There are amazing people here. They know more about how F1 works than David Coulthard! Wow.

Being in F1 does not stop you from having a conscience, or the intelligence to know that lying (Repeatedly) to an officiating body is stupid when you have told the truth on at least 2 recordings. "How F1 works" on these matters is irrelevant. It doesn't matter how they decided to lie or why, what matters is that they were stupid enough to do it.

That theory falls apart by the simple fact that Hamilton told the truth to the press before that...

What is more worrying is that the FIA have broken the charges down into five sections. This means the penalties could be far more severe depending on how many of these charges Mclaren are found guilty of. Even in saying that, it looks impossible that Mclaren will escape without some sort of punishment.
A sad day. :(

The Charges are

Lied, Got Lewis to Lie, Carried on Lying until the second meeting, Lied at second meeting, Got Lewis to lie at second meeting.

I think what makes matters worse is that McLaren alway try to have a squeaky clean image, and that makes it worse. I am sure if it was another team that does not give the impression of being holier-than-tho (spl) would not make it as bad.

McLaren I am disappointed in you

not that McLaren and Ecclestone (and the FIA) were on one another's Christmas card lists beforehand.

Correction: BE does have Ron Dennis on his mailing list - remember the card BE sent him with some funny note on it?

It really doesn't matter if Hamilton was persuaded or even flat out told to lie, he still lied. Had he stuck to the truth he would have saved McLaren from all this official mess. Yes it would have been ugly in the garage or the conference rooms but that would have been behind closed doors and not punishable by the FIA. So IMHO if LH had stuck to his pre and post hearing truthfulness the team would be spared any fines, suspensions etc.
And then we all could hail LH as a true champion and leader, on his way to being one of the true greats of the Jackie Stewart kind. But now we are left to think he is just another spoiled immature child being led by others. He should have stood up and led and he didn't.

with this whole Hamilton doing what he was told thing, I wonder where in the rank structure a driver is?

It depends on the driver: compare MS vs. a SB or GF - just no comparison in clout. FA is pretty high up there too as a double WDC and being technically minded. LH coming off his world title of course has AH to double up re. clout in the team, so I'm thinking he's pretty high up there.

Yep Hamilton is apart of the team he is as much to blame as the guy telling him to lie. Hamilton knew what he was doing and what saying what he said would do to Trulli and Toyota. Alright he thought he deserved 3rd while Trulli didnt but Trulli didnt deserve to get 25 seconds added to his race time.

You are absolutely right. It's a shame.

No one's saying he's exonerated. No one's saying what he did isnt wrong. A 14 year old may point out he is in the wrong but I doubt his/her life experiences really qualify him/her to pass judgement on why hamilton did what he did.

I fail to see how his reason for lying (the 'why') has any relevance to whether it was justified or even defensible. It may sound harsh but really the lie is in direct relation to the sport, not his personal life. And while lying to the press about your girlfriend or even cheating on your wife might be offensive enough for some but not others it is not lying to cheat for an extra 2 points. So let's not give him a pass or then there really is no point to having any sporting regs. Should the FIA not treat all liars the same they run the risk of becoming a joke (more of a joke at this stage) and the sport will suffer (further).

Im not saying that (the why) should allow him to be exonerated , Im saying it offers insight.Yes the FIA should deal with lies. And as you say they should deal with them "ALL THE SAME" They dont.

Indeed there really is no case to support Hamilton. He does not deserve to go unpunished. Especially if Mclaren are sunk. (Oh I wanna play Battleships now)
