The only thing i can really add to what has already been said is that today could be considered YET ANOTHER example of the current points system having a bad effect on the competitiveness of races.

Back to the old 10, 6, 4, 3, 2, 1 system? :)

Well, i dunno about you but i like that the first 8 drivers get points, but i think there should be more of a points benefit for the race winners like the old system!

Maybe there should be another thread about this , i know i have many thoughts on it and we'll get bollocked for going off topic too much in here i bet, haha.

Then, what about 15, 10, 7, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1? I think that would make fighting for podiums much more intense and worth-while. And yeah, this probably should go elsewhere. :)

Maybe slightly lower, 1 2 3 4 6 8 10 13/14? Thinking about all the factors, it's quite hard to strike a good balance between keeping title races close and encouraging more competitiveness for points in the races themselves!

I must say that was an extremely boring race. I am extremely dissapointed, and I fear that Singapore will be the same. I think Tilke should design a track with no overtaking in mind, because everytime he designs one with overtaking in mind, it's a boring race. Better yet, he shouldnt design tracks at all.

Most people involved in Formula One were actually looking forward to Valencia much more than they were Singapore. If this is the best Valencia can produce, I can't imagine what Singapore will be like! I agree with you about Tilke. His circuits are generally extremely poor and are all very similar, the challenge to drivers and teams and the excitement for the fans is being eroded away. Tilke out!

You can't have it both ways, chaps. The reason the 10, 8,... system was introduced was to keep the title battle alive for longer. It's not a perfect system, as possibly shown today when Hamilton drove very much within himself, but I think the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.

Thing is, we don't have the kind of dominance now that the Schumacher/Ferrari era brought, so the older system would not be as bad. If that wouldn't work, then at least increasing the amount of points that a winner gets by just one would make things slightly more competitive and worth-while. So, instead of 10, 8 etc. it would be 11, 8 etc. As we've seen before, one extra point can make all the difference, so perhaps drivers would be ready to take a few extra risks in order to get the advantage it offers.

The system they have at the moment is probably the fairest.
As long as F1 don't start giving points for Pole and Fastest lap... I do not believe that is Formula one...

By the way, just watchin the highlights - so few that they have just played the sound clip of Allen

"Oh the Mclaren strategies are all made from Woking, they are like the code breakers from World War 2 and are locked in a dark room"

What is that man on?

The wasn't a gaffe it showed the man is so in the tank for Hamilton (how can you muss that big green number 1 sign next to Massa's name!?) that he probably has whole load of soundbites already written up before the race talking up how much Lewis reminds him of Senna

Any chance that next year James Allen will, having lost his commentary job, become an author?

Write an autobiography... his side of the story about Hamilton, the haters... etc etc
Or write some love stories about a boy called Louis and a girl called Jam
#61624
"Rob Smedley should become a politician once he's done with F1"
"THE CLUB OF DADS - Massa's dad, John Button and Anthony Hamilton"
"Massa has staked his claim to be the Bolt of Formula 1"
