Alonso was getting rather frustated yesterday, but I suppose it does happen, he is a talented driver, and Renault is making progress but I'm sure he'd rather be in a ferrari or something fighting for another WC

From F1 Live:

Honda wants long-term Alonso deal - report
High ambitions for 2009 and beyond
22/07/08 16:06

Fry and Brawn obviously have big plans for Honda
Honda is stepping up its efforts to lure Fernando Alonso to the Japanese team for 2009 and beyond, according to a British newspaper on Tuesday.

The Daily Telegraph says that while team bosses Ross Brawn and Nick Fry are not interested in a single-season deal as has been speculated, they see the Spaniard as the ideal teammate for Jenson Button going forwards.

"I don't think it's anything specific to Fernando but in my view it's too short a period to be able to integrate a driver and get full benefit," Fry said at Hockenheim, when asked about rumours linking Alonso with Honda only for 2009.

The Telegraph claims Fry and Brawn have "made Alonso a name-your-price offer" for a longer-term deal, even though Brawn answered "yes" at Hockenheim when asked if Honda plans to use its current driver lineup in 2009.

The very next day, he backtracked, insisting "nothing is certain" in terms of next year's team.

Brackley-based Honda, although an under-performer particularly this year and last, has resources to match top teams McLaren-Mercedes and Ferrari.

Moreover, it is no secret that the team has effectively shelved the 2008 season in the hope of capitalising fully on the major regulations changes for 2009.

"The plan is really designing the car Ross wants for next year, and this year is about getting everything as Ross wants it in the way the team operates," Fry, team CEO, confirmed.

Well, I wonder what Alonso will say to this. Also, we see more evidence of his dictatorial Fry is at Honda.

From autosport.com:

In the buzz of the post-race paddock at Spa Francorchamps, it was rumoured and reported that former champion Fernando Alonso will switch from Renault to BMW Sauber for the 2009 season and beyond.

The information was transmitted from the Belgian venue by the Italian television channel Sky, who said the Spaniard's contract could be for a three-year period.

The rumour comes just one day after Honda boss Ross Brawn admitted he is also waiting on the 27-year-old's decision, and ongoing speculation that Alonso wants to use his team for next year only as a springboard to a Ferrari seat perhaps in 2010. Alonso would not be drawn on the reports.

"For weeks I have said I will only consider my future at the end of September. My priority at the moment is to help Renault to fourth place in the constructors' championship," he is quoted as saying by Germany's Auto Motor und Sport.

Alonso is a great all-round driver. It's a shame he is such a bitter twat.

I wouldn't want him at BMW-Sauber, but maybe the combo RK/FA could be a working and winning one that gets them to the pointy end of the grid and championship battle next season...

I don't think RK and FA in the same team would work, FA has already proved that he does not play well with talented others in equal machines.

Maybe that was just with Hamilton, or Ron. Come on, let him try again :hehe:

I'm sure that they have plenty of choices for strip poker  With daughter of Bernie being far far away (something like kart amator :))

But seriously, I would love to see FA with RK in BMW next year.
Don't really care how FA would maintain that, look how strong RK come back after NH owned him last year :)

Yeah. I think the difference looks greater than it is, though, due to Nick having such a hard time.

And hey, I wouldn't mind playing poker with Bernie. I rarely lose :P
