Yeah its good to have you back mate, hopefully this win will bring some more BMW fans to this forum, but none of them bandwagoners

what I would give to be in the motorhome with Dr. Mario Theissen and the boys partying late into the morning. I don't think BMW has a chance to win either championships but I like the fact that they can upset the order, its more interesting to see BMW upsetting Mercedes then Ferrari because BMW & Mercedes are global rivals. As for Heidfeld, he's in a slump just like Kubica last year and Kimi this year, I wouldn't write him off just yet, BMW, Dr. Mario Theissen, and Sauber has always been loyal to Nick and Nick has a hand in the success of BMW-Sauber has much as anyone there, for his devoted work, Dr. Mario Theissen will give Nick the remaining season to get himself out of his slump. As for next season, I can see BMW retaining Nick as a teammate to Robert, they work great together and Nick is consistent. He hasn't qualified well this year, sometimes in the middle of the pack but at race end you will find him in the top 5, that is consistent and superb racing, maybe not qualifying. As for Alonso, Dr. Mario Theissen has gone on records saying they are not interested in Alonso. BMW-Sauber is all about loyalty, honor, and teamwork, none of which Alonso has. Schumacher was loyal to Ferrari, Kimi was loyal to McLaren (until too many DNFs), Alonso will jump to anyone with a winning car all the while having one foot out the door, he hasn't been loyal to any of his teams and the minute any of his teammates are better you know he will throw a tantrum. BMW-Sauber is left with the option of, whose better then Nick on current grid of availabled drivers next year?? easy, Nick Heidfeld.

Its pretty nice to see any team upset the big 2. I was hoping for atleast a podium from BMW, but when Hamilton ran into the back of Raikkonen I just blew up with excitement because in one accident the 2 driver who were favored to win were out of the race. Not that I want anyone to crash, but I instantly knew that this was BMW's best shot at winning. To be honest I think Nick drove just as, if not better than Kubica. He started like from 8th place and was even passed by Rubens in a Honda! But he pulled himself together and drove outstandingly to create a gap between him (I forgot who was behind him) during the re-start after the safety car. Plus he held off Alonso well and proved that he is still one of the most difficult drivers to overtake, and I'm glad Alonso didnt run into the back of him at the hairpin (he almost did). I hope he wins a race this year because he has been racking up a bunch of 2nds, but no win. Hopefully it will be at the German GP, but I'm pretty sure he doesnt care where its at, just aslong as he gets his first win. All in all I'm already happy with the win, but even happier with the fact that they got a 1-2. What made even it better was that there was no Ferrari/McLaren driver on the podium, but just a bunch of underdogs. All of them were drivers who deserved to be on the podium. Hopefully Nick gets his first win this year as with Heikki Kovalainen.

Nick is all class and he puts the team first. During his press conference (the one with the international media) he said he didn't want to give Robert a hard time because Robert had a lighter car so he made the pass easier. During his battle with Alonso, the team told Nick to keep Alonso behind then they came back on the radio to tell Nick to let Alonso through. Nick decided not to because he said he didn't know how much gap Robert had on Alonso because Alonso was running lighter and Nick thought Alonso didn't have another stop to make. Nick also said he remembers last year's GP where Alonso had a superior McLaren but was passed by Sato because Sato made the right tire choice with all the marbles on the race track, Nick said he thought that Alonso may catch up to Robert because of Alonso's tires so he tried his hardest to give Alonso a hard time and to give BMW their first historic win. Nick said he is happy for Robert because Robert DESERVED to win and he's happy for the team for their 1-2 but he also said that he's dissapointed because as a race driver you always want to win not 2nd, now he's being bashed for his honesty :x

I don't think it was a case of not knowing to look for it, just a case of him being too busy trying to get out as close as possible to Kimi and Robert. He just got a little too close. It has already been proven time and again that not concentrating can easily put you out of the race or at the very least ruin your chances of scoring any points.

Hamilton wanted to emulate his dad you see, by wrecking his expensive car at 30mph!

Like father, like son

From autosport.com:
Heidfeld: More work needed on qualifying

By Simon Strang and Jonathan Noble Thursday, June 19th 2008, 12:21 GMT

Nick Heidfeld believes he has made good progress in getting on top of his qualifying woes, but thinks there is still more work needed before he is at a level he is happy with.

The German has been outqualified by teammate Robert Kubica at every race so far this season, after struggling to get enough heat into his tyres to enable them to operate at their best over a single lap.

And although the BMW Sauber driver had initially hoped that there would be a simple solution to his problem, he now thinks that it will take a couple of steps for him to get on top of the issue.

However, after spending a day at Barcelona testing last week experimenting with set-up solutions, he thinks he is starting to get near his target.

"Yes, I think we have made some good progress - clear results that should help me, not only in qualifying but also with race pace, which wasn't that bad anyway," he said at Magny-Cours, ahead of this weekend's French Grand Prix. "I think the car is quicker for me now and easier to drive."

With Heidfeld focusing on tyre temperature management and getting more comfortable with the way the car moves around on new rubber, he is hopeful that progress will continue over the next few races.

"In the beginning I hoped that I would change one thing and boom suddenly it would work, but now I have more the feeling that it is a couple of small things that should bring the result," he explained.

"Already before the test we had a couple of positive ideas that worked. Now I feel more changes, and I'm optimistic that we are going in the right direction. But I no longer think that changing one thing will make qualifying fantastic. Unfortunately, I think it is more of a process. I thought I would solve it more quickly."

Looking back at the events in Canada, where BMW Sauber took their maiden victory, Heidfeld admitted that he was not hugely delighted with the events of the afternoon.

"No, I was not fully satisfied as I had a good chance to win my first Grand Prix," he said. "However it was a great result for the team finishing 1-2, with a perfect strategy for the team.

"Converting me to a one-stop and having Robert on a two-stop, in the end even if there would have been a safety car, I would have been lucky with the win.

"So it was great for the team, but of course if you are so close to your first win then you cannot be satisfied."

Now that Robert has won a race their is no other driver on the grid that I would like to see win more than Nick. I also think he is a class act and will bounce back strong during the second half of the season.

What about Heikki?

I was going to list one or two more drivers but since this thread is about Robert and somewhat about BMW I decide to keep my reply as on-topic as possible.

It's getting to the stage where I'm wondering if Kubica is going to actually fall off the pace of the front runners at all? He's been so consistent, and he completely deserved the win. And as each race goes by, he's racking up the points and not showing any sign of losing it. Could he really win the WDC? I'm still not sure, but damn he's been in hot form; if he keeps it up, and has the car to battle for it...you never know. If Lewis doesn't win it then I hope Kubica does, the man is clearly quality. Although his nose is a bit large

Robert is on pace with the front runners as a driver but the car is not quite there yet as I see it but I would love to see him upset everyone. 8)
