It's Lewis. Everything will be seized on , analysed and twisted, from what he wears, to what he says, to the look on his face and on and on and on.........

I don't think that's unique to Lewis in any shape or form RC.

No it's not. But he's pretty near the top of the list I'd say.

How can anyone think that any team member leaves a team willvno effect them. The dynamic of the team will change.

Of course it will. I personally think it's a big error to let him go, sounds like Lauda does too. But Merc have to go on and the employees can't be seen to be wailing and gnashing their teeth about it.

Will it effect their performance. I think not.

I think it will. Really he is the head of engineering, so he controls how much sway each department has on the car. Departments like Aero, chassis, electronics, engine.

Car design is all about compromise, and he is the comparator

It does seem to be something specifically about Lewis. All he has to do is something everyone else has done, and there is no benefit of doubt or no quarter given, 'its how dare he' its like 1 strike your are out only for Lewis. you can almost hear the posse being assembled and fresh horses found

Paddy Lowe leaves McLaren, Button says 'it wont affect us, we are bigger than that' and its ok, Kimi gets asked the same thing and its probably 'who is leaving? I dont give a s***'

Lewis says the same thing, except maybe doesnt bother with niceties and all of a sudden he is not even too honest or 'sticking to the corporate line too tightly' or not playing the word games well enough

No its Lewis, he is evil - stone him

I think what he's saying is that NO ONE is bigger than the sport itself. Brawn personally brought him to Mercedes and I think he wouldn't have gone there otherwise.

As least he has enough humility to not compare HIMSELF to the greats. :whip:

I realize this is from 2008 and that Hamilton has grown up since then; however, he did compared himself to the great Senna:

Hamilton Says He’s As Good As Senna

Reports coming from a well respected German news site claim that before last weekend’s Japanese Grand Prix, British driver Lewis Hamilton claimed he was as good as Senna.

Ayrton Senna of course, a legend for many people, one whose life was so tragically cut short. It is very surprising that the rookie starlet would claim to be as good as him, Senna of course winning 3 titles Hamilton has well, none.

The comment shocked seasoned journalists, even those from Britain (who incidentally decided not to publish this story).

“I am as good as Senna” He claimed to Sport.de

“I know I am as good as Ayrton Senna. Don’t you know I’m the best?”

“I can tell immediately where the line with the most grip is”. Mocking Massa he added that being good on a wet track is not automatic for Brazilians and that Felipe in such conditions “cannot find the limit”…

Well, I'm stunned. Cannot believe he would say such a thing.

Always the player Jens v can't lie Lewis. I say again, you've completely missed what's going on here.

I don't see it as a matter of honesty, so much as it's a matter of maturity and diplomacy!!
Think of how many times have you wanted, as an adult, to blurt out the "truth"; but, then
realize that it won't benefit any one, unless you word it carefully?

Button has learnt that particular skill; Hamilton has yet to recognize it as a skill that he
should seriously consider honing!!

Absolutely agree!!

You can easily substitute Alonso, Kimi and, dare I say, Vettel and the same would be true!
They're the top talents in F1 at the moment and everything they say is under the microscope!

Well perhaps lying was too strong a word, but he was clearly asked to tow the company line and he did so, but he's transparent ( to all but those desperate to lambast him) . He trawled out what was expected from him by Mercedes and he didn't do the best job of hiding his true feelings, because he's not good at that. As you say Sagi, hasn't ( and I'm not sure he ever will) honed the skill of the silky smooth PR snake tongue.

 isn't he great and funny for "allegedly" saying that, and in a context of what even according to the linked blogs was a joke run? I love that guy. Funnier than anything Kimi says.

You might consider the fact that the McLaren fairy-tale writers have a huge part in this perception of Hamilton!
The hype surrounding him and his "greatness" and "invincibility" put him on a pedestal that was seen to be a
foregone conclusion! He was presented to the F1 world as the next "Senna" and comparisons were being made
continuously. I realize the British hadn't had a "homegrown" hero in years and many hoped that the hype was
true. Unfortunately, for Hamilton, he is human, after all. Unfortunately, for Hamilton, his F1 career has been
followed not only by fans; but, also by controversy, as he seems to be at the wrong place at the wrong time!

Mercedes is bigger than Brawn - Hamilton

..."Of course, as a boss he helps create a great atmosphere but that's what hopefully you would expect from all bosses...

Out of curiousity, has Hamilton been introduced to Domenicali?
