If Button leaves McLaren, I wouldn't mind Ferrari taking Button for next year. I doubt he would do any worse than Raikkonen has this year.

Petafromkimi is going to have such a go at you.

Aww. I am a Kimi and Jens fan. And a McLaren supporter. Not a great season for me. :( Now I know why I am so angry all the time :banghead:
Not sure about my new name, I should make a poll

And Kimi has not done well. No quarrels from me.

Aww, so you're not really Peta 23 from Essex?

and talkin about Top gear

The list of people, organizations and even countries that have been offended by Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson is long and illustrious: Mexico, Christians, Muslims, the Romanian government, environmentalists, women, Poland, Scotland, Boy Scouts and Catholics, Tesla, his own countrymen, family counselors, Christians (again), labor unions, Indians, Wales, handicapped people, cancer victims, black people, Wales (again), hackers, environmentalists (again), Americans, and his own countrymen (again).

The latest in the saga that is this thread;

From Spain we hear Alonso has now signed

FERNANDO Alonso’s Formula One career is back on track after signing a two-year deal with McLaren-Honda.
The two-time world champion is set to leave Ferrari and rejoin the Woking-based team after four years at the Italian giants.
Alonso’s place in F1 had previously been placed in jeopardy afterseven teams ruled out a move for him.
McLaren big wigs, Eric Boullier and Ron Dennis are now arguing over which of the teams existing drivers should pair Alonso for next season.
A difference of opinion sees the Frenchman favouring Jenson Button while Ron Dennis is leaning towards Kevin Magnussen.

The thing that removes credibility from this article is the very thought Ron would be 'arguing' with Eric :rofl:

And from France an interesting take on the whole thing

By spreading its demands vis-à-vis Ron Dennis - a continuation of his salary to 16 million euros in 2015 - Jenson Button was only justify his statement: "I am a world champion and it is time to respect it. " Yet this axiom has not shaken Ron Dennis. Or even other patrons.

Alonso / McLaren-Honda track Fernando is increasingly clear. The Spaniard has not yet settled the details with Ferrari and delays the announcement of a contract signed in Sochi, according to several sources. The contract would be for two years (2015/2016), with an option for 2017 and a base salary of 40 million euros. A high salary that would cause, it was said at Interlagos, Jenson Button's departure.

Strategy Richard Goddard, agent Jenson Button for the 2015 season had nothing to do with the previous one. In 2012, the idea was to keep its positions vis-à-vis Lewis Hamilton and a salary of rank without asking for increase. But evolution according to obtain a global title. Except that title, McLaren has never been able to get to his English driver. Goddard was therefore decided to apply the same strategy as the representatives of Lewis Hamilton, there are two years with Martin Whitmarsh: McLaren Charging for its lack of performance.

A strategy encouraged by the arrival of Honda and its millions in the budget of the English team. In this game, however, Button lost there. The scenario of the break is engaged. The expectation of a new contract being felt Ron Dennis made an offer on a salary of € 12 million in salary and a bonus of 4 million euros, according to the results. The agreement was reasonable for everyone. Button with no other offers (only the idea of a pension at the time). But in September, the agreement was amended by Dennis. The salary was reduced by 50%. 12 million in salary, there were only 6 million and $ 10 million in premiums. This offer would be one that caused the declaration Button on his status as world champion.

Honda wishing to participate pay only Fernando Alonso and not to the Button, McLaren would take from his pocket the salary of World Champion 2009. A heavy load.

Button refused to sign such a contract. Meanwhile, Dennis discusses recent weeks, a new agreement with Kevin Magnussen. The young Dane had an option for 2015, which gradually turns into two-year contract (2015 and 2016) against a substantial increase in salary (€ 1.5 million next year and $ 3.5 million in 2016 estimated).

A step outside Formula 1, Richard Goddard discussed seriously with Toyota Motorsport, which participates in 24 hours of Le Mans and endurance championship facing Audi and Porsche. A signature is close between the two parties (called a salary of € 3 million per year for Button). But recent statements Button suggests that a solution could be found with McLaren. A significant drop in salary would be considered.

Seems there could be yet more twists and turns to this, especially with RoGro now appearing not to be confirmed at Lotus

Looks like it's Bittons own fault if he's off. Wouldn't take the reduced salary and now it's reduced even more.

I think hes mistake was to forget that everything decision made by the guy who employed him was the worst in the teams history, and then to enter into negotiation with Ron thinking he was negotiating for a seat when Ron was just going through the process of de-employmentarisation

It would explain why he didnt fix up another deal, Ron probably offered him some money, Button tried to haggle, so Ron halved his offer, and Button said 'what, thats not fair' so Ron halved it again, etc etc

its like saying I will pay you 10, and he says I want 15, so Ron says ok, Ill pay you 5 then, and Button starts crying that bids are meant to increase till they meet the offer in the middle, and Ron said, 'whatever mate, its now 2'
#425487
I wouldn't blame every bad decision made by McLaren in the last few years on Whitmarsh. From what I read it was Ron's decision to teach Lewis a lesson and look how that's turned out.
#425493
I think he already decidd to leave when they told him that they didnt have enough money to maintain his pay level after increasing Buttons by 50%

I think Ron ordered he not be given the Spa wing to try and torpedo the Merc move by making them think Lewis was no good with setup and working with his engineers, because Mclaren at the time were very vocal in saying both drivers had the same info and same choice to which wing, when Lewis wasnt even told. Which is why he had to retaliate on twitter by showing the clear difference between the two that even a baby would be able to make the right choice if presented with the data

Ron is not that stupid to have pushed Lewis out, so as he admitted he was teaching Lewis a lesson that the team was bigger than him, it could have been to drive Lewis out to weaken the rat TP he was trying to depose at the time IMO
#425495
Maybe I'm too naive, or too nice or just not ruthless enough... the scorched earth approach is never an option I tend to consider.
#425496
You are in a different business thats all. The story behind staff, engineers, Adrian Newey, Honda engines between Mclaren and Williams is a real eye opener

Ron doesnt much believe in using vaseline when it comes to drivers or staff who could move to a competitor with McLaren knowledge etc

Do you think he means Ron doesn't use vaseline to keep his hands from becoming chapped?
