... At least we know Mercedes isn't building a car to suit only one of their drivers. Or giving Lewis Nico's wing.

At least, not yet...

Facts:
-> Rosberg did well against Schumi, over the time they were teammates (in spite of Schumi having more than twice as many DNFs);
-> Rosberg and Hamilton were relatively even last year (Rosberg had one more DNF; but, they were only 18 points apart at the end of the year).

It would seem that this may be Rosberg's "make or break" year more so than Hamilton, considering Rosberg's tenure at Mercedes.
Since they have the best car on the grid, at the moment, and these two have only each other as competition, I'm guessing next
year's car will be "better" suited to the winner's driving style.

p.s. Over the three hears, Schumi had MORE THAN TWICE AS MANY DNFs? :yikes:

Read this and I've no clue what it is you're even trying to say. It seems as if you're saying that Rosberg is good enough to beat Lewis because he beat Schumacher, but in the same breath you say that he only beat Schumacher because he had double the DNFs?

Nope... I was making a case for why Rosberg will have a "make or break" year.
Although, he seemingly proved himself by scoring better than Schumi, who had more than double the DNFs,
he has yet to do better than Hamilton, who is "relatively new" to Mercedes.

Better?

Why is anyone assuming nico is going to have some sort of outburst if lewis wins monaco and canada? I've yet to see nico lose his cool in the four years that I've been watching the sport. Yes, he's never been in this situation before, but I don't accept that alone as a valid explanation. Is this assumption just based on similar situations historically or his past demeanor or otherwise?

Just my personal assessment, Geet. I've been watching the progression of Nico's body language, the things he says, etc. over the last four races and each time he loses to Lewis in qualifying and then the race, the level/degree of tension increases (maybe marginal but still apparent). He, Nico, hasn't been in a situation to this point in his F1 career where, as RC describes it, histrionics reveals itself, but now he's got one person between him and the likely only chance he may have at a WDC…when it's all at stake, that may bring out things in a person that you may not expect. This isn't me "reading into" things…just using my eyes and ears. I don't expect there to be fist fights and that sort of behavior but I am anticipating as mentioned before, a moment or moments where we go: "There it is!" or "Here we go!" Another way I look at it is, if Nico goes through the remainder of the season where he loses most poles and races to Lewis and shows nothing but ice in his veins, I'll be in complete shock. Nico is a fighter and so if he doesn't do something about Lewis on track, this will play itself out in some other way (he is after all, human). As said earlier, I don't know how but I'm convinced it will. I'm likely the only one that believes this and that's OK with me…lets watch how this plays out. :)

Got this from a friend on another site, it really put a grin on my dial as I read it.

There are some stories that Luca is planning on spending up to try and get some key people. On his shopping list is Newey, Bell and Brawn. Imagine if f1 was like some other sporting codes where teams do trades. Ferrari trades Nando for Adrian and Dan. Could Adrian be the magic Ferrari needs? Imagine the battle between Seb and Nando under a leader like Horner guided by Helmut.
About as likely as pork chops being served at a Jewish wedding, but still a bit of fun to think about.
I wonder who Luca will end up spending his money on?

The trouble with any team that signs Newey is that they have to cope for 12 -18 months of a fast but unreliable car

The love talk between Mercedes and Fernando is ramping up. From an F1 fan perspective it would be great to see Lewis and Nando slug it out again.

As a Tifoso I would have preferred to see that happen in red, but being realistic, and to do it justice that battle needs to happen at the leading edge of the competition and Ferrari aren't there ATM.

Fernando Alonso has expressed frustration about a lack of praise from those who should be supporting him in Formula 1.

Earlier this week, Mercedes chairman Dieter Zetsche hailed Alonso as perhaps the top driver in F1.

He told Spanish media: "Alonso is probably the best driver on the Formula 1 grid. Fernando has always proven it - and in uncompetitive cars."

That admiration comes just a few weeks after Mercedes motorsport boss Toto Wolff said Alonso was a 'monster' in races.

Speaking ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix about the latest comments from Mercedes, Alonso said he welcomed such talk, but said it was weird that others who should also be backing him did not do so.

"It's always welcome when people see your job in a good way, and respect what you try to achieve," he said.

"It's sometimes strange to see good comments and compliments from people from outside, and the opposite from people who are supposed to be close to you.

"It's motivating for me and good to see good comments, and funny when you see the opposite in your closest friends."

Although some have viewed Alonso's cryptic remarks as an attack on his own team, it is understood he was referring to criticisms he has faced in sections of the media about his performances at Ferrari.

Similar story from another source. Marca is also running the story.

Zetsche says Alonso 'best driver' in F1

May 21 (GMM) Fernando Alonso is "perhaps the best driver" in Formula One.

That is the claim this week not of an F1 fan or an insider, but of Dieter Zetsche.

Zetsche is the chairman of Daimler, the parent company of Mercedes, whose Brackley based F1 team is utterly dominating in 2014.

It has been rumoured recently that Mercedes could be interested in reviving McLaren's fiery 2007 duo, by ousting Nico Rosberg and pairing current championship leader Lewis Hamilton with Spaniard Alonso next year.

Alonso is reportedly frustrated with Ferrari's continuing lack of championship-winning potential, and eyeing a 2015 move to Mercedes or perhaps McLaren.

Mercedes figures including Niki Lauda and Toto Wolff have denied the speculation.

But Zetsche said on Tuesday: "Alonso is perhaps the best driver on the grid, demonstrating it even in a slightly less competitive car."

And he is quoted by Spain's EFE news agency as saying driver skill is more important than ever, after the move to the new breed of turbo-powered cars.

"Drivers with the new hybrid power must be very good," said Zetsche, "because the cars are no longer the 'trams' that we have seen before.

"Today's cars are exciting; it doesn't bore me that the same team has won every race so far," he smiled.

"It is the job of the other teams to equal the performance of Mercedes, even if we also have a lot that we can improve."

So Mercedes has said Alonso is the best driver on the grid. That is a good way to motivate your own drivers

IF Merc did say those things, then they've been uncharacteristically thoughtless. They already have the best driver sitting in their car, who's won every race this season when his car has been reliable. And they have an amply able driver in the other car. Now why would they want to mess that up? Unless of course they want to annoy Ferrari.

There's little doubt it was said, and it's pretty clear Nando isn't happy ATM. Santander paid out Kimi's contract at Ferrari to put him in the car so maybe they'd do the same at Mercedes?
If it did happen who would be best for Ferrari to aim for? My choice would be Dan.

It's my hope that the Mercedes honchos are just winding up Ferrari and not publicly declaring their desire to have Alonso on the team. Yes, he's better than Nico for sure but pairing him with Lewis is soooo problematic on many fronts. Why even go down that path (even though they have both grown up considerably)? So yes, I'll assume the bosses at Mercedes are just part of the Alonso Mutual Society Club and leave it there.

Well if it was said it was a stupid thing to say. And that Dieter guy isnt running the race team so Alonso shouldn't count his chickens.

If Ferrari find for whatever reason they need another driver then yes Dan would be a good choice, but if he consistently beats Vettel this year and establishes himself as the faster Red Bull driver, would he want to move to Ferrari? I don't thinks so.

Edit: posted same time as you then second. Was replying to Spanky. I think they'd be barking to take Alonso and dump Nico

I'm thinking that Alonso would be flattered by such comments and why not?
Those accolades are for the best driver on the grid, who has put in amazing
drives in a car that hasn't been as competitive as others have been over the
past few years.

Why does that mean he is going any where? Why can't it just be other teams
appreciating what the man can do and saying so?

Cuz the last time this happened, it was Uncle Ron extolling virtues and Alonso ended up at McLaren…and a dreadful time was had by all.
