How about every police officer that graduates the academy has to be able to shoot an apple (symbolic right?) off of the police commissioner's head at 20 feet.

That'll make for a high turnover rate at the PD :hehe:

I think a few commissioners, but the cadets will be better shots overall.

If you haven't already heard, we've had yet another rampage today. Sadly this time, there are 18 elementary school students in Connecticut amongst the dead, perhaps as much as a dozen more dead or wounded.

Yeah, guns don't kill people, but people without guns aren't able to kill 25 or 30 human beings in the span of ten minutes. We've got to cut this shit out. It's been the Obama administration's biggest failing. Being afraid to even mention gun control.

This is pretty sickening.. Someone has an issue with a parent or society, and do these senseless acts.. I don't believe these people are crazy. They are self-centered narcissistic cowards. There are no excuses for these people.

And those left behind have no reasons or sense of being able to have justice..

It really is a serious problem when it's happening more often than blue moons. I watched the Presidential debates and they hardly even touched on this subject throughout the duration! Surprising from an outsiders point of view, I can only imagine what Americans are thinking right now.

Problem is that you can't legislate against some nut with a gun. The person that did this doesn't care about the legalities.

But you can legislate who buys guns who's allowed to carry a concealed weapon and what how you're prosecuted for not registering a weapon, not selling a weapon without an extensive background check and if you have multiple weapons, there's no reason why you should be subject to a psychological evaluation, you also don't need 22 round clips nor do you need semi automatic assault weapons.

You can't legislate a nut job but you can make an entire culture take a stand that if you're going to own a gun then you must meet some basic testing and background to have it.

Nut job or not, today in my state and in the majority of states in the country, I can go to a gun show and buy a semi automatic assault rifle without any type of background check whatsoever!

Many people out there who don't care about legalities at many points in their lives, maybe even you and me. The difference is, we do not have access to these weapons when we want it.

I'm totally pissed at this issue here in the States. How many more shootings do we need until the NRA and their moronic gun lobbyists get outlawed?
I only hope that Obama, now that he's not running for re-election again, will initiate some serious steps to curb gun ownership :banghead::banghead::banghead:

The American brain is broken. We need to stop damaging the brains.
A good portion of these shootings happen just after the meds had been increased by your friendly neighbourhood psychiatrist.

Andrew, Look at the UK laws on guns, we have had the same issues in the past, Hungerford and Dunblane soring to mind however I am sure there has been one more recently. SO stricter gun laws might not get rid of the problem totally.

I think the trouble is the amount of illegal gun floating around. If you introduced tougher gun laws in America you would just end up with millions of illegal guns with no way of tracing them.

The NRA are trying to promote safe gun use which is not a bad thing.

I'm watching the coverage on CNN this morning; I didn't hear about it until this morning because I didn't watch TV or listen to the radio all day yesterday.

As a Briton living in the United States, I find this very disturbing and makes me seriously think about keeping my son out of school for the next week.

IT'S TIME FOR CHANGE; as pointed out previously, "the right to bare arms" is hopelessly outdated; time for a massive overhaul of the gun law system, a federal law that covers all states needs to be put in place; psychological evaluations and inspections of the location where the guns will be stored should be standard, also concealed weapon licenses need to be abolished.

Doesn't the NRA promote safe and legal use of firearms? I would say that the NRA are the wrong bunch to have a go - it should be the government that are called to task for their lax laws on gun ownership and the 2nd amendment.

As an aside, Piers Morgan is an obnoxious idiot, nothing more than a poor imitation of Jeremy Paxman. It would help if he'd shut up for a minute and let them answer his questions.
