If lapped cars always allowed the lead car past without a battle, Le Mans would be a very boring race to watch.
But given the new SC rule of having the cars fall into position and lapped cars allowed to overtake, a car can get back on the lead lap, especially a front running team that may have fallen behind because of a pit stop to change a wing or something like that. So why shouldn't they fight for position, the incentive is there and if the pace is equal? You're arguing about HRT because they are relatively slow when compared to the front runners, when they leave, will you then make the same argument again about Marussia, then Caterham? There is always going to be a slow car on track blocking the leaders at the wrong time, it's the same for everyone. So Vettel got involved in this one, it happens.
