Jenson was at Bathurst today with an MP4-23 along with Craig Lowndes and his touring car. Jenson did a 1:48 (nearly 20 seconds off the official lap record). Craig bit a very respectable lap time, about a second of Jenson's best.
Now, I want the Australian GP at Bathurst ASAP!!!
What an awesome race that would be. And, guess what, cars could overtake without ludicrous MRW or other gimmicks.
spanky whats bathurst like?, ive not seen an onboard lap there, is it historical or something?
Bathurst the place is a country town in NSW. From Sydney you drive through the Blue Mountains to get there. It really is beautiful countryside.
BUT
The real story of Bathurst is it has become a mecca in Australia for petrolheads. Our major motor racing event has pretty much always been the Bathurst 1000. It pits Ford against Holden the traditional rivals and each has armies of supporters.
The Bathurst 1000 circuit lends itself to camping there for a full weekend for the event. You get a great mix of people who have a legendary good time. BBQ's and parties are pretty much going non-stop and eveyone is very friendly - although the Ford v Holden rivalry is always there.
The circuit is awesome! Long, natural elevations and massive straights to test every part of a car. It is a spectacular road which can be driven when it is not in use for races.
If you love racing, BBQ's, a beer or 10 and partying - Bathurst (during a race) is you.
