I purchased Sky Go and I wont be resubbing after this month.

1. I still prefer the BBC coverage, shame it isn't live but it is more to my tastes than Sky's so far.
2. I was expecting a dedicated channel with lots of different shows like how Big Brother has BBLB and BBBM etc. Instead it's just repeats, very little talk on the actual events, there hasn't been any Quali review show and just lot of ads when the racing isn't on.
3. No lee McKenzie :(

My final complaint is I paid £35 for basically one channel and yet I get the gimped version with non of the extras the Sky Dish owners get. I think that is unfair considering I'm paying more and getting less. On top of that you can only have two devices registered which would be fair enough if you could switch as you like, however you cannot. So basically if you get new hardware like swap an iPad 2 for an iPad 3 you're screwed. If you reformat windows or buy a new laptop/PC then you're screwed and if you update your Android Rom you're screwed and so on.

I got it to watch on the go, which meant going from my 360 on my TV to my PC on the office to my Laptop in bed and my Mobile or iPad when I'm out and about. Now it doesn't tell you anything about registering devices until you've registered two and it is too late. So the iPad 2 I sold for the iPad 3 left me with one device which was my PC but on restart after Windows Updates it said my PC wasn't registered anymore. I phoned up the customer server and they said I should become a Sky customer and it's like I AM!!!!!! No that wasn't good enough they kept saying but I'm not a proper subscriber :S Like then why have Sky Go at all? Surely I paid the £35 so I'm a customer lol.

It gets worse because apparently I made changes to my PC so it is my fault :S It's WINDOWS UPDATE! I thought it was meant it be Sky Go? Not Sky lock you to two devices until you do software updates and then you have to wait a month to be able to register any devices again. Surely the clue is in the title that I'm streaming it from the net and will be doing so from different devices. It's not like a static TV where the only upgrade is a box every several years.

So short sighted and the dumbest system ever! The forums are full on people complaining about it and yet they don't care. The old system they describe is better where you can watch it from any device you want but only one stream at a time.

Anyways it reminded me why I left Sky back in 2003 and I will never go back again after this experience.

that's aboslutely absurd...
you totally spoke my mind with regards to Sky's coverage, just the quality of the coverage is no where near the first BBC coverage. the things discussed in the "Sky pad" can be easily done with Brundle in the comm box, what's the point? if they want to use the sky pad to analyse the pole lap, it is really not that effective. they might just divert Sky pad resources to some where else, the BBC can explain the pole lap much better with Brundle (2009,2010,2011) in his build up.

The only few good things Sky has compared to BBC is the longer (relatively) coverage on FP's, and longer qualifying coverage after quali.

But sheesh, ad's for a paid channel?? They should seriously reconsider putting ads during build ups, and outros, it is really annoying...

i guess if it was a free-to-air channel, ads are acceptable. i wonder if it would work better if BBC could get ads in the build up and outro, more revenue and get the F1 broadcasting rights back.. SKY's way of broadcasting don't really work for me. but i guess i have no choice because Sky is the only channel to show F1 live in English...BBC's extended highlights was much enjoyable.

just my opinion

Can't you de-register the computer in your Sky Go account settings?

I didn't see any of the BBC coverage but thought the Sky coverage during the racing was decent today. Croft and Brundle worked pretty well IMO and Ted Kravitz was just doing what he always has done. I always really liked him on BBC and glad to see him at sky where i'll be watching it most. Although the negatives are the punditry and, of course, the SkyPad. No matter what sport I never like to see just one pundit, like Damon Hill was today- I'm sure he''ll come good but with just one it always just seems awkward. After a many years of watching football on sky I now how much they love to overuse there unnecessary technology that they have in the Skypad. At least Davidson has a fairly decent understanding of how to use it unlike Andy Gray and Gary Neville lol. And, hey, can never really complain about seeing Georgie Thompson lol.

also, does anyone know if Sky Sports F1 is on freeview? Seriously can't be bothered getting out of bed if I'm gonna watch the race.

Nope. The channel is subscription only.

You can still watch it for free by finding a live stream online or torrenting it; both of which I of course do not recommend or condone. :)

Yes, you can; BUT you can only make one change per 24 hours, I am lucky in the respect (1) I get to watch SKY F1 in the United States through a VPN, and (2) have a father with a full package subscription back in the UK so I can get Sky Go for free because of my father's subscription, he's 75 years old and never going to use Sky Go!

tixylix: you can access race control from this link; just sign in if you're not signed in and when sessions are on, you can choose from multiple feeds!

No you can only make one change per month on Sky Go monthly ticket at least, dunno what it is like for people who have the Dish subscription. I just think that is crazy, one change per day would be great but one per month is :\ If I want to update my software, buy new hardware or watch it anywhere else, I cannot until a months time.

It doesn't let me view any of that because I've only got a monthly ticket and apparently that doesn't count for any customer service or bonus content even though I pay the same at £35 a month but get much less.

Just think they treat their customers horribly and you just see the same complaints again and again on their forums and the same bullpoo replies from Sky. They complain about piracy and why they do it but if you offer a sub par service more people will watch the live streams. I mean I'm locked out of my account now until I can resub (I wont be) and so I have to watch one of these live streams because of their bullpoo device restriction. The customer service only has to reset the device but they say they cannot do it :S I mean so it is my fault a Windows Update and a restart and selling my iPad 2 for an iPad 3 doesn't let me view it any more? Surely these are legit scenarios that they should have seen coming when coming up with these restrictions!

Just pissed off and feel Ripped off and cannot do anything about it because it'll cost more money and time to try and get my money back.

I think you're right actually, I must have remembered incorrectly, sorry! And I agree it is stupid, not so much of a problem for me as I only ever use my laptop and HTPC setup to watch Sky Go. I understand limiting a customer to one or two simultaneously streams but limiting how many devices is ridiculous, especially given Sky's watch anywhere ad campaign!

I've seen better grid walks from Martin, but hey, at least they return from the BBC! :)

I watched both BBC Quali and Sky's and the BBC version had more depth to it even though it was heavily edited and much shorter. They got interviews with drivers and even got Kimi after his bad Quali result which Sky didn't bother with or any driver really. Then they have all these features which make no sense and are over in 20 seconds, like what is the point? Not only that but Sky love to pump ads and this is their own channel and we're paying for it! I don't mind ads in between but when you're Live I don't want any.

When you combine that with the channel just being repeats all the time, I don't see the point in having it's own channel. They haven't done anything with it and I expected like I said in another thread to have like what Big Brother does with all it's extra shows. Yet they only had that one show at 7pm on Friday and that is it, the rest of the time it's seeing coverage of revealing cars or greatest drivers of all time over and over again.

Onto the Race it was horrible, if the BBC did that Ferrari feature with Brundle it would have lasted longer than it did and been better shot. There seemed to be barely any features or chat with drivers and no real information. Instead there was useless crap like the Sky Pad or they played this weird 20 second thing of a greatest driver and then more ads. Even Brundle on the walk down the track to talk to the drivers before the race was crap, basically it was waiting for some singer to say nothing.

It was the first time I've ever felt lost in an F1 race with not knowing what is happening. The combo of commentators just doesn't work and I love them them both, just not together. Croft is great with Davidson and Brundle was great with Coulthard, just felt like Croft was being corrected by Brundle most the time, which could just be him getting into the groove as he is great on Friday Practise with Davidson. I don't know who controls the cameras, if it's Sky or F1 itself but they were horrible, the timing of replays and the UI over the race was just bad.

I'm really missing Lee McKenzie too, in part because she's beautiful but also because she always seems to get the interviews with the drivers right away, I dunno what Sky is doing? Whoever is doing that Sky Pad feature with Davidson needs to go because she seems rather pointless and Davidson could do a better job on his own.

It just seemed like a right mess, not helped by the fact I paid for the service and have to view it on an illegal strema site because it doesn't recognise my PC even though it's registered and you cannot change devices more than once a month :S

I so hope it gets better and I hope they do more with the pointless channel of repeats and ads.

I like Sky's. It's early days so the chemistry isn't there but all of the interviews and analysis is there. Plus, Sky have Brundle and Kravitz.

Comparing Sky and BBC is tough because the BBC has established itself for 3 years whereas this is the first race for Sky.
#295015
I don't like the main presenter either, he has no personality :\ Say what you want about the trio on the BBC, at least they have a laugh and are somewhat interesting to watch. Needs a new main presenter who can make Brundle and Hill more interesting, that or get Eddie in there to embarrass himself.

Can't believe their after show coverage is over already..... I was expecting more from a dedicated channel.

My opinion of the Sky coverage has slipped quite dramatically after the first race.

Simon seems lost. Like a rabbit caught in the headlights. Hopefully this will improve though.

They are on air for 4.5 hours. 2hrs race. 0.5hrs adverts (which I'm fine with). This leaves two hours of analysis time. Time for them really to go in-depth and discuss some current issues. Ie Merc rear wing. Ferrari crap car. Or discuss strategy options for the race. They also had over an hours post-race time, and it feels like it was filled with obvious questions and obvious answers.

As for the sky pad thing. I like it in principal. But they need to focus on more interesting things than Jenson beating lewis off the line. Could of spent a lot more time analysing the mid-pack scraps and collisions. Plus I still dont know what the reason was for half the retirements. If they did mention it, it was in passing.

I like Georgia Thompson's arse. That's sweet and they can keep that.

WORST OF ALL. Their race control centre advertised multiple onboard cameras, timings, driver tracker etc etc. This I thought could be excellent. Except it's all 30s behind TV feed. Why do I want to follow Lewis on board camera 30s behind the telly!! A few seconds I could tolerate. But 30????

Anyway, they need to improve greatly next week. I'm seriously considering going back to BBC on their live weekends.

So glad I didnt pay extra for SkyF1 HD.
