Clearly live coverage on the BBC would be the best option for us, but is this year's arrangement really that bad?

Partly due to the lack of overtaking in recent years, I've often opted for the evening highlights by choice anyway. I'd certainly rather rather make this comprimise than give Sky any more of my money!

Sky's pre and post-quali was crap imo. And i HATE that Skypad feature, so unnecessary, lots of style and very little substance in that. Ted and Martin are still completely brilliant though, the BBC has no answer for those guys.

I like the basic idea behind the Skypad feature, in that it's supposed to give a pretty in-depth analysis, but so far they haven't really done anything that could not be done with something far less flashy and silly. Also, it would be much better to replace Georgie Thompson with someone who has a better idea of what is going on. A Davidson/Chandhok partnership and some more technical information would probably go a long way towards improving it. I imagine that things will improve as time goes on, but let's see. I think I'd complain a lot more if I was paying for it... :hehe:

The bread and butter sky coverage is nothing special in my opinion, I didn't think that Brundle and Croft worked that well together, Croft and Davidson are great fun to listen to in the commentary box. But when you add in the onboard shots, live timing and driver tracker, that makes things more interesting, but for those who are paying £30 per month to be able to watch live, it's a little on the steep if you are not at all interested in the other channels included with the HD package!

There are other features?

I think the Brundle/Croft partnership will improve. Things are always a bit rough the first few times (Brundle/Allen, Brundle/Legard, Brundle/Coulthard and Croft/Davidson all took a few races to get to the point where things flowed naturally), so I suppose we should wait and see.

Brundle/Coulthard was fantastic later in the season.

Same  I think Davidson could have just run that on his own to be honest, but there you go. Seems like awful overkill if they have Georgie Thompson and a small studio there JUST for that segment!

If it was me running the Sky show... i'd have Davidson and Damon doing the punditry full time with Brundle joining as and when. I'd have also gone out to try and get someone who drove in 2011 for some really modern insight. The Skypad thing can just be achieved to a similar level by using replays and one of those pen overlays you see some sports programmes using.

One point of kudos to sky though, they didn't show any ads during the quali hour when they could have easily done so. And the ads before and after weren't too overbearing, certainly better than in FP.

i really dont like the ad-breaks during the build up and build "down"...really breaks the momentum of the show...

i am starting to wonder the reason sky's coverage starts 30mins before BBC's usual time is because of 30mins worth of ad's...

let's see what others have to say about ad's during build ups...when you are waiting for the next interview or next sequence to come up.. BAM..adverts..
oh and those ad breaks during practice...super annoying

i miss EJ, DC, Jake, MB and the BBC way of doing the show...

In the ad brakes, I'm checking these forums and other sites. By the time I'm done with that, the adverts are over. :)

And they really can't hide (didn't even try) their joy because british drivers/team are/is on the front row... Same reason I stopped watching F1 on RTL (commercials too). That's so unprofessional.

You should watch the Italian or Spanish feeds then.

So British commentators, on a British TV channel, being happy 2 British drivers are at Front of grid? I dont see anything wrong with that.

To be fair, a commentator should try their best to be impartial. They're there to tell you what's going on right down the grid, not just where it concerns a couple drivers. Granted they'll have their likes and dislikes just the same as most fans but they should be putting their personal preferences to the side as much as possible.

I think SKY have done a dent job. Remember it was there first live F1 broadcast, lots to be learnt, but the staffing choices are, IMO, excellent. I really liked the Crofty/Brundle pairing in the commentary box, and think Damon hill as a pundit it a good choice. I found the analysis a little more informed than that of Eddie Jordon and DC, although the chemistry and banter will only come with time.

Also nice to see more of Ted and I thought Ant at the SKY pad could be a really good feature with time.

As for the Adverts?? what adverts, with SKY plus there are none.

But all the broadcasting guff aside the on track action was excellent, nice to see the Red Bulls down the grid a bit.

I don't dispute that. But this doesn't mean that they can't show a bit of national pride when a result like today happens.
