On the face of it yes, but accounting for the finer details, no, they weren't the same situation at all.

They were both racing incidents. I'd also class the button /Lewis one as a racing incident even though Button has apologised and most see it as more Jenson's fault. they are racing.

But that's how Lewis is, polarizing for some, a hero to others and a target for anyone that loves to hate him. The difference here is that there aren't a ton of people coming out of the woodwork chastising Alonzo for making a mistake him being aggressive, there aren't people coming out of the woodwork saying the same thing about Vettel and how his boneheaded move lost him the race.

Soooo... you're saying that people are just Hamilton haters or whatever? The various incidents were very different!

I'm saying that they should all be deemed as just that incidents. If something can be argued as 50/50 or even 60/40 then there is some responsibility on both sides and it becomes a racing incident. I'd rather have it like that and only penalize drivers for clear infractions or intent. (like Schumacher on Barrichello last year) I realize that it's all subjective, but when in doubt there is a case to error on the side of racing instead of erring on the side of stewarding!

All I can say is wow!

First ever Formula 1 race i've ever watched properly and I was blown away by the sheer thrill and excitement of it. I never understood how people could get excited by a few cars whizzing around a track, but I sure do know why now! I had almost given up on it during the rain stoppage but the few crashes at the beginning kept me interested. Buttons comeback was amazing, was on the edge of my seat when him, Webber and Shumacher were battling it out. Was a great finish, Vettel unlucky to lose.

Think i've found a new sport to follow :) Cant wait to get really into F1. Are all the races that exciting or did i get a special treat? :D

Button had the pace to pass a lot of cars but he was about to be overtaken by Alonso! Yes he made it all the way from the back but was helped a lot by all the safety cars.

For someone called Fact Man you get still somehow get facts wrong...

Alonso wasn't the 1 overtaking Button it was Button overtaking Alonso and Alonso didn't yield, not saying it was Alonso's fault since it was clearly a racing incident on a very wet track but Button was the faster car at the time not Alonso, I am sure he would have been up there battling for a podium if the accident didn't happen but i am also quite sure it would have lead to a very easy win for Button since that accident dropped him down to last place.

And yes he got help from the safety cars yet so did most drivers in that race even Vettel, he may have lost his lead in the end due to a safety car but he also maintained it for so long because of those safety cars, not sure exactly how many laps it was but pretty sure it was close to 40% of the race was behind a safety car at which time cars that were faster than him could make no progress where as he maintained his lead.

I know you are Alonso's biggest fan but even someone as blinded as you cant ignore the fact Button drove a fantastic race probably the best drive we have seen in a few years and maybe the best for a few to come.

Where did I say that Button didn't drive very well and of course all of them benefited from the SC. But this discussion is related to Button. Get it?

Although I believe Alonso has a gun under his seat (just in case he gets too angry) :hehe:

Are you sure it isn't Hamilton? After all the anger that he has shown lately. :hehe:

See i think in the wet a LOT more leeway should be given due to visibility (as it was, i guess...).

and the French commentary

Really? When I was at Spa the track commentary was in English, Damn French Canadians aye always have to be difficult :banghead::hehe:

it was 60/40 French to English... but the guy doing most of the English commentary was a doofus, master of the obvious, he actually said "the track is very wet because of the rain"
