I wonder if they'll have more problems with animals making their way onto the circuits now.

I doubt we'll see much difference. Of course, it isn't as if the engines are silent.

Almost though!

So when Lewis wins his home GP, you're going to be thinking... that's great but the engines didn't sound loud enough.

I will be ELATED when Lewis wins his home GP, but a little sad that some of the magic, the escapism, the insanity, the outrageousness, the fingers up to 'correctness' has gone.

I notice the WHEN you use. It might be rosberg. He's my bet on the championship.

Rosberg is good, and will score plenty of points, but I can't see how he could beat Lewis who just had more talent at this stage.

Yes I used when. Lewis would have won his home GP easily last year but for the blowout. He would then have beaten Rosberg on points, qualis and wins; and that's in a car and team he isn't used to. Not sure why you have the money on Nico. Is it because he's 25 points up? That can change in the blink of an eye. Or is it because he is "more intelligent and can think through a race."?
Don't get me wrong here. I really like Rosberg and think he's a very good driver. But I think Lewis is better. And he can't keep getting all the bad luck...surely.

I know I'll miss that engine scream it makes you tingle when you first hear it. It's part of the amazing experience of a live race. When I take people with me who haven't been before they're blown away when they first hear them even though I've told them what it's like. Twill be somewhat underwhelming now.

You guys are killing me. I've never been to a Formula 1 race, I was planning to attend the Abu Dhabi GP this year

Sorry to say, but too late 388. The engine noises were the main attraction to actually attend a race since you feel it in your body and you NEED(ed) ear plugs if you cared about your eardrums.

Anyway it's better to look at the positives and I'm sure this sound will grow on us sooner or later. It's just the fact that they're quieter which is why we have so many b!tching about it but maybe if they installed woofers near the exhausts it will please more people. The sound of the new PUs could sound pretty cool if they were just much louder.

Go! (Double points should make it interesting too)

A lot of the people who are actually at the track like the sounds from what I've seen, people talking about more texture to everything; it's just the people who've never heard it live and only on the TV and YouTube who are putting up the biggest complaints.

Maybe when the TV crews stop setting the audio levels to that of last year we might hear something on the TV.

Bernie has fixed it

The disappointing sound of the new engines in Formula One is to be addressed with the use of playing cards clipped to the rear wheels, according to Bernie Ecclestone this morning.

With the move to V6 engines with electric power trains away from the previous V8 engines, the noise in the pit lane and around the track has been described as ‘disappointing’.

Formula One supremo Ecclestone told reporters, “A Formula One experience is not complete without at least partial hearing loss and ongoing tinnitus issues.”

“The roar of the old engines was almost enough to make your ears bleed, and that’s what the fans, teams and sponsors want.”

“We have looked at the possibility of microphones and amplifiers around the engines, but we’ve decided that playing cards on the rear wheels will offer the significant enhancement to the engine acoustics that we’re looking for.”

“We will be introducing a limit to the number of spokes allowed on the rear wheel to ensure no team has an unfair auditory advantage, though no doubt the creative teams will find a loophole in the regulations.”

“Before long the clickety-clack of a formula One car speeding past will be as recognisable as I am.”

Formula One engine noise

Teams have already begun assessing the impact of the playing cards in their simulators and wind tunnels, with some feeling they have stolen a march on the competition.

McLaren F1 spokesperson Simon Williams told us, “The small amount of extra drag we’ve experienced is more than made up for by the guttural sound from a playing card being thwacked at 190mph.”

“We’ve found that casino grade cards give the best acoustic return, but card degradation is going to be an issue for all the teams trying to complete a race distance.”

“It’s bad, but we’re just hoping Pirelli don’t move into the playing card business.”

Luckily, 3double8, we have more than just the one sense! Don't deprive yourself of the experience based on the different sound!
Even if the engines don't "sound" the same, there will still be the sights, the smells, the feelings and the "taste" of F1 racing that
will make it memorable, no matter what race you attend!!

Yeah, which is what I suggested in my next paragraph? It's just a sound which has become a bit tame but there's a lot of positives in attending a race live. Depends on the crowd though, a passionate crowd makes a lot of difference.

Playing cards?? As in Poker?

Yup!! And, it's especially more fun and exciting, if they're also rooting for your favourite driver/team!! :wavey:

So F1 engines are to sound like broken down trucks now? Another aero thing for Newey to use.
