I cant believe they made such a big fuss about the name then only to withdraw their concenrs. Ferrari should send them a big thank you for nothing letter :banghead: Guess they got a bit of media coverage out of it....

They withdrew since Ferrari changed the name to something even the thickest of persons wouldn't confuse with their valued F-150 brand.

I feel like an idiot even typing this response... the fact that it was an issue to begin with. :banghead:

Ford have finally given up and withdrawn their summons on Ferrari.

I love this quote from the horse whisperer - "the Ferrari 150° Italia, which should make it clear even to the thickest of people that the name of the car is a tribute to the anniversary of the unification of our country"

But I don't think it was a sudden epiphany that prompted the Einsteins at Ford to give up. It was probably the fact that their "legendary" F truck sales after the major slump has not really burbled back to any form of life, managing only 14% increase on last years miserable figures, whereas the Chevvy is up 60%.

What a bunch of morons......

That's only because Chevy sold nothing the previous year, and Toyota was suffering from their brake fiasco, so they gained more % from the previous year's sales. Ford actually was the only American company that stayed financially stable. Maybe in part to their strong F-150 sales. :hehe:

I'm glad the lawyers figured it all out and gave us a lowest common denominator result. Lawyers are also the reason why there's a warning label on my hair dryer reminding me NOT to use it while I'm in the shower. :D

Would be a quick way to go in case that pulling your hair about bickering forum posters doesn't provide you with the right amount of comfort anymore...:hehe:

It is still the best selling truck ever, there are more f150s on this planet then australians.

Even if you considered the Chevy/GMC 1500 - 3500 the same truck, there are still more f150s sold. ( Not including f250 and f350s)

Im glad they dropped that stupid lawsuit, now i can figure out if im driving a 2.5 ton truck of a F1 car

The Ford F150 has been #1 for numerous yr's so imho I do not think it was a sales ploy as Ford and Ferrari have had an unspoken feud since Henry Ford II tried to buy Ferrari for $12M and Enzo said no. About two weeks ago I watched a great doc on the creation of the Shelby Cobra 'Daytona' and it went into very detailed info about the war between the two. Also Edsel Ford II worked for Shelby back in the '60s.

I do recall something about the declination of sale to have caused HFII to vow to beat them at LeMans hence the creation of the GT40. I never knew Ford ever tried to use the name Daytona. Chrysler doesn't seem to have had any problems doing so. :hehe:

If Ferrari used a numerical naming system this wouldn't have happened. But it's not like Ferrari are selling this to the public So it's not in competition with Ford. I guess what Ford is worried about is name recognition, when they think of F150 do they think of the Ferrari or the Ford? That in itself is what they want to protect.

If the names would be confusing for other people that would really become an issue. And I've seen people that got confused about these two car companies about naming. My friend went to a Ford F-150 repair shop with his Ferrari F-150 to get fixed and others that were in that shop were also surprised. I don't know if my friend misunderstood that it was a repair shop for Ford F-150 but he says that in their signs in the shops, the labels only focus on the F-150. and they don't indicate whether it is a FORD or FERARRI.

In addition to what bud wrote, if a company is too lax in protecting its trademarks or other IP, they could lose influence in court to protect them in the future. While that may not have been a significant factor in this particular instance, it is something to consider. Protecting your brand is a full time job.

Ford = Found On Rubbish Dumps or Fcuked On Race Day.

Ferrari and Porsche equal the edge of glory.

PORSCHE: Proof Of Rich Spoilt Children Having Everything.

FERRARI AKA FIAT: FIAT: Failed Italian Automotive Technology, Feeble Italian Attempt (at) Transportation or the well known favourite - Fix It Again Tony!

This would be funny if Ferrari had the pants sued off them but it woudl never stick I don't think.

I don't care if fiat owns Ferrari, they are not the same so bagging fiat has nothing to do with Ferrari. So couldn't care less what you think fiat stands for. As for what Porsche stands for, you're probably right, so thanks tata (daddy). :D:hehe:

Spot on.........the one-off Ferrari F-150 was an attempt to set precedence using the F-150 name, a trademark for Ford pickup trucks. Without legal challenge, what's to stop Chrysler from selling a F-150, a Fiat F-150 full size pickup truck.....the F series meaning Fiat. Ford being aware of Fiat buy-in of Chrysler knew Ferrari was testing the waters with a toe, but Ford took the leg off up past the knee. tata
