PR is a far fairer system.

Everyone's vote should count. We need to remove wasted votes and tactical voting.

It works on the continent and it could work in this country.

It would also be easy to prevent the extreme parties from getting elected by adding a threshold. Maybe this way the major parties would be forced to change themselves to represent a wider percentage of the population.

As for the nationalist question. In terms of Scotland the nationalists will not receive the same percent of the vote in this election as they did in the Scottish Parliament elections. People tend to vote different for General and Scottish elections.

I think voting should also be made compulsory by law. :|

Guess the UK better build more prisons then; I have never personally voted for the simple reason I have very little interest in politics and firmly believe that every word that comes out of a politician's mouth is a lie; every election; each leader makes big promises and often don't deliver on those promises. I completely lost faith in UK politic when Blair went to war against the wishes of the people that elected him; not to mention having a vote in the house of commons; asking themselves if they deserve a pay rise; surely it should have been put to the public vote; "do you think politicians deserve a pay rise?" - I bet many would vote against that one.

For this election; for me the bottom line is NO MORE BROWN; I simply don't trust him!

Compulsory voting doesn't tend to be strictly enforced.

Yeah, it's kinda pointless. What if one doesn't WANT to vote because s/he doesn't subscribe to the idea of democracy? Forcing them to vote wouldn't be very democratic, now would it?
In Switzerland, there is one canton (Schaffhausen) that has compulsory voting. You get fined if you don't vote (3 bucks - pfft - this hasn't been adjusted for 20 years now) and we vote at least 3-4 times a year. Their voter participation hovers usually between 60 and 80% whereas in other cantons it varies between 35-50%.

Going down to vote in a bit.

Just remember, if you don't vote then you should be shot of you moan about the government within the next 5 years! :P

I've not voted as I choose not to get myself dosed in the political-gasoline of promises that will never be done!

And I won't moan about the government, as I couldn't give a toss about ego's in a brick house!

I voted earlier, the problem in this constituency is that the party I lean towards the most, the green party. are not standing, so I voted tactically for the Lib Dems in the hope that we get rid of our standing Tory MP. I think a hung parliament is the best I can hope for, I would be disappointed if Labour won, but I would be horrified if the Tories attain power. I remember the Thatcher years with a lot of anger and bitterness, what she did to this country, she sh*t on the working class, put millions out of work, increased the income gap between rich and poor and set us on this current neo-liberal, free market led economy route which has further exacerbated social and economic inequalities and is having dire environmental consequences. If the Tories win I am emigrating ... well I would if I could afford to :(
