I think fielding 2 rookies could be a mistake for Compost. I think if I was a new team coming in I would want at least 1 seasoned driver. I think I would even consider Sato above a rookie, as at least he has some knoweledge but he has little knowledge of 2009 running, and I am not sure if he would lead the team technically, as Honda did most of the developments and Super Aguri got the hand me downs.

Yeah Senna and Di Grassi.
Not good for the team

If Villeneuve returns, that would be five current or former world champions competing. How long will it have been since there were that many current and former world champions competing?

Even four, sans Villeneuve, would be a high number.

it was going to be inevitable post schumacher era that there would be more than 1 or 2 world champions in on the grid

Last time there were 4 was the 1999 season. Schumacher, Häkkinen, Hill and Villeneuve

Last time there were 5 (arguably) was the 1985 Australian GP. Prost (who was uncrowned, but had technically already won the championship), Rosberg, Piquet, Lauda and Jones

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Good news for renault Fans!

Senna could test for Renault this year

By Jonathan Noble Tuesday, October 20th 2009, 09:16 GMT

Bruno SennaBruno Senna could test for the Renault team later this year, AUTOSPORT has learned, as the French car manufacturer continues its evaluation of a second driver for next season.

A senior source at Renault has confirmed that the team is in talks with Senna about him trying out their car for one of the post-season tests. The team's reserve driver Lucas di Grassi is already confirmed for one of the three days that the team is allowed to run.

As well as his discussions with Renault, Senna remains in contract talks with both the Campos and Manor teams about a race drive for next year - and he is optimistic of something being sorted out soon.

"Things are looking really good," Senna told AUTOSPORT. "We are in much better shape than we were this time last year. We are dealing with a few teams and everything is coming together well. The fact that there are new teams means more opportunities for upcoming drivers.

"We are talking to most of the new teams, although not talking to US F1, and we are talking to a couple of the current teams in the paddock. But the best chances are with the new teams, and that is what we are focusing more on."

He added: "It is close between Manor and Campos. It is open still, not defined, and in the next two weeks we should have a good idea what is going to happen."

Nice, i didn't think they'd consider him - but it'd be good if he didn't end up at one of the new teams, and RK and Senna would be a pretty solid pairing for Renault! :)

That would be excellent if Renault gave Senna a chance, I bet that would never have happened if Flabio was still in charge.

Di Grassi closing in on Manor seat

By Jonathan Noble Thursday, October 22nd 2009, 11:27 GMT

Renault test driver Lucas di Grassi is closing in on a race seat at the new Virgin/Manor outfit for next year, AUTOSPORT has learned, but wants to wait for his current outfit to sort its driver plans first before committing.

Di Grassi has held detailed talks with Manor about a race seat for its debut campaign in 2010, but is also on the shortlist for a race seat at Renault next year - and will join the outfit for one of its post-season young driver test days.

The Brazilian is upbeat about his chances of securing a race seat – and said he hoped the situation would become clearer once the season has finished.

"At the moment it is looking pretty good," di Grassi told AUTOSPORT. "My commitment at the moment is with Renault. There is still one seat to be decided, and I had a very, very successful time here. Renault has helped me a lot, so my commitment is with them.

"At the moment it is deciding which driver it wants, and I know there are new teams interested in me, but it is difficult at the moment to see which one is going to be the best.

"We know some of them are not going to be the best, but which one will be the best package will become clearer in a couple of weeks. That will provide a better view of the whole thing."

Although di Grassi would not confirm how far advanced his talks with Manor were, he did admit that the team looked to be the most attractive option for him for next year.

"From what I understand, it [Manor] has the best package available of the new teams – in terms of technical people who have joined the team, in terms of marketing, and in terms of financial backing. I think is very, very serious, so from my side I rate it very high on the list."

When asked how he would rate in percentage terms his chances of being in F1, di Grassi said: "I would say a good 70 percent. At the moment it will depend on the next few weeks, after the season finishes, and then we will see if it goes down or up."

Renault is understood to favour slotting in an experienced driver alongside Robert Kubica next year, with Timo Glock top of the team's target list. Current driver Romain Grosjean is unlikely to be retained for 2010.

It's somewhat surprising to see Di Grassi praise them so highly...!
