For me, the fact that the FIA have passed the diffusers and the stewards have effectively thrown out the protests from the other teams means that an appeal is pretty much pointless.

I hope this is the end of the matter, and the appeal court sees sense and allows the diffusers to go ahead as the FIA and stewards have. If they don't they better have a pretty foolproof explanation for it.

Cant wait till the weekend now!! GO BGP and Jens!!! :D

I agree. Take advantage of the diffusers for as long as you can and others don't have them.

Let it be known that should Ferrari's protest of Brawn (et al) eventually deliver the OZ race win to Lewis Hamilton as I stand a fairly high chance of collapsing laughing.

As for redesigning a gearbox, 's not quite as easy as that 'cos the rear suspension is hung onto the gearbox so you'd need to change that too & the all the aero that surrounds the rear suspension or is affected by it - ie, damn near all of it.

That's going to cost.

Well as you see if they do allow Brawns GP then the win they receive won't count because they have an advantage so that won't be took into account but if it is illegal then all 3 teams will have to mod there cars. So either way no win-win.

they wont do any retrospective result changes if the diffuser is deemed illegal in the court of appeal hearing. It will be similar to the Mass Damper or moveable Floor where the results will still stand but next race meeting dont turn up with that diffuser or you wont pass scrutineering.

That's my understanding as well.

Five teams already focused on new diffusers
According to gossip as the Albert Park paddock

At least five teams have already turned their attention to copying the Brawn-esque diffuser design, according to gossip as the Albert Park paddock packed up ahead of this week's dash to Malaysia.

The appeal against the stewards' decision to allow the controversial diffusers to race in Australia will only be heard in Paris next month, but it is rumoured that BMW, Red Bull, McLaren, Ferrari and Renault are resigned to going down the path of readying for a negative outcome.

"For us it is not really possible to copy it," BMW's Nick Heidfeld told the German news agency SID, "because not everything on our car can be changed at short notice."

Red Bull's Christian Horner added : "The ramifications could be the whole rear half of the car which obviously has a huge amount of cost implications in a not fantastic economic time."

Whispers indicate McLaren is quite advanced with a 'double decker' diffuser design, and the Spanish newspaper Marca said Renault - despite boss Flavio Briatore's anger - is also working on the issue.

The sports newspaper said the same is true for Ferrari, while Fernando Alonso could be racing a new diffuser by the time of next month's Chinese grand prix.

"What is happening with the diffusers is stupid, forcing teams to spend money in a time of crisis," Briatore fumed.

"It is also about safety: we have already put similar pieces in our wind tunnel and it gives 14 per cent more downforce. That is not in the spirit of the regulations. And once they are developed we could be talking 30 or 40 per cent additional," Briatore added.

Red Bull boss Christian Horner said the team's design department began investigating the 'double diffuser' weeks ago during winter testing.

"There is lap time to be gained," he told the BBC.

"The diffuser issues opens up a development path that was not previously open. That is potentially big performance gain because the floor is the most powerful aerodynamic tool on the car," Horner added.

It's true, in that fact maybe no one should turn up at the GP except for Brawn because they probably do the same again? So either they should count there win as a DQ or really it will be a boring GP of backpackers against a rocket.....

It has been declared legal in more than one occassion. The teams that don't have the innovative diffusers and are whining to no end should cut the crap and deal with it.

Sheesh.

Load of :bs:
The Brawn diffuser is legal as of right now until the appeal is heard. The other teams missed the train - deal with it! No reason to suggest that the results should be nullified :director:

 I think your right but then again the whole debacle could be dropped but who knows?

I feel the same aswell.

We need more people to come out and tell the none-diffuser teams to deal with it like Mansell did.

McLaren didn't complain and have taken the hint very well as they have actually been working on a diffuser in the meantime. If the non-diffuser teams aren't already making one themselves, McLaren could well sneak ahead of them when they get their diffuser (and pracitcally the rest of the car) working. Then they'll only have themselves to blame for wasting so much time complaining.

There must be afew technical places teams can gain a huge advantage like this.

Thats my opinion but since 'in season' testing is banned it will be very difficult.

Very good point.
If any team does develop using brains only, I think Mr.Brawns team will be the one!!
