Oh heikkiiiiiii :cloud9:

See Heikki is cool. When he got pole on Saturday you could see the disappointment in the Hamilton lover's faces.
Some guy behind me during the race wearing Mclaren merchandise head to toe came out with "I don't give a F**K what Heikki is doing. Lewis is far better"

But Heikki is a reason for me to like Mclaren. I've never hated the team, huge respect for them and their drivers. (Even Lazy Kimi in the day)

Just not the boy from Stevenage.

:nono::nono: Stop slagging off Lewis. You're off topic and Tex will get you :hehe::hehe:

i think alonso will end up at ferrari, which will be hard to swallow, i wont EVER support ferrari, the question is will i be able to support alonso, dont think so, will still respect his driving tho

so atm im wanting piquet to to better than alonso, but it aint gonna happen i fear, where are renault gonna be next year, if they scrap the budget cap, nowhere

:cryfloods:

You will take comfort in that you and your fellow Renault fans will be genuine supporters. At the minute, when I wear my McLaren top, God knows how many people come out and ask me I am a Lewis Hamilton supporter? I feel like punching their faces in and crying, "Nooooooooooooo. I'm a McLaren supporter, something I've been since I've been watching Formula One!" There is another group of people who I detest even more. These particular pieces of chaff jumped on the McLaren/Lewis Hamilton bandwagon in the last year or so and who try to speak to me as if they know just as much about the team as me etc. I also want to physically attack those glory-hunting tool bags!

I know you probably don't want to hear this, but in this regard, you and I think alike. I am a Ferrari supporter and support the team even if it is a driver I don't really like. Ie Kimi Raikkonen. I don't think Kimi is anyone special and I prefer Alonso better than Kimi, but because Kimi drives for Ferrari and Alonso does not then I simply support Kimi. I guess it is the same for you Chris. You're not a huge fan of Hamilton and I don't know you might like say Kubica better than Hammy, but as a McLaren supporter and wanting to see McLaren win the title you are naturally going to support Hamilton over Kubica in the same way I will support Kimi over Alonso. :)

Santander for Ferrari, Abbey for McLaren?

Tuesday, 15 July 2008
Jul.15 (GMM) McLaren looks likely to retain its Santander sponsorship beyond the 2009 season, notwithstanding widespread reports that the Spanish bank wants to switch with Fernando Alonso to Ferrari.

It has now emerged that McLaren in 2010 and beyond will probably run with Abbey branding, which is Santander's UK subsidiary.

Santander began sponsoring McLaren last year, coinciding with Spaniard Alonso's ultimately ill-fated tenure with the Mercedes-powered outfit.

The latest rumour is that while the Santander branding is expected to switch to Ferrari in 2010, the Spanish company may want to continue to benefit from the huge interest generated by Lewis Hamilton's role at McLaren.

Indeed, at the recent British grand prix at Silverstone, title sponsor Santander ran joint Santander-Abbey signage on its trackside advertising.

When you say I don't like Hamilton it is more that I don't like his personality, rather than not thinking his driving is up to standard. At the minute, I'd say that, for instance, Alonso is a better all-round package than Hamilton, but, when Hamilton gains a little more experience etc., he would be the better driver to have on your team.

be like when they shared Marlboro, but this will all obviously depend on if Alonso is a definite for Ferrari.

I'd say so. Giving this more weight is that not only do Santander own Abbey, they bought another fairly large UK bank just yesterday, so Hamilton and McLaren's strength will be a marketing tool for this. Would Santander be willing to be heavily sponsor two main teams? When Marlboro sponsored both McLaren and Ferrari, the former was the senior partner and the latter were more the junior partners in the arrangement. If Santander's main priority is to be with Alonso, Ferrari would probably get more sponsorship money and McLaren could have to find a couple of other sponsors to top up what they've lost with Santander changing its focus.

im sure McLaren wont sell themselves short with Santander, they wont accept junior sponsorship from them! and with Hamilton they have plenty of corporations willing to sponsor them, might even get some of Lewis' personal sponsors as team sponsors like Reebok and Pepsi.
If they stay on as Abbey and pay alot less they wont be getting the rear wing exposure they have now!

That's what I'm saying. Santander's name will be on the car somewhere or other, but the team won't be giving the advertising space on the car that they are getting now. McLaren will have people queuing from Woking to Inverness wanted to sponsor them given Hamilton's driving for the team. McLaren won't be left high and dry, but they will have to bring other people on board, which, as you and I both said, won't be too difficult.

I'm welcoming Santander with open arm's and an open hand! :hehe:
