Do you? How so?

You're putting words in people's mouths by implying it's impossible to think Lewis Hamilton is an insufferable git without it being because you're jealous of his success.

It's also a broken assumption, because there are equally and even more successful drivers many of us think are great people.

:nono: Not putting words into anyones mouth, simply agreeing with an alternative scenario to the "Lewis is an ungrateful arrogant insufferable git" camp. We all have our own opinions and can expresss them, it isn't only the right of the hamilton haters.

What's your point? It's still wrong to assume that people only hate him because they're jealous.

:banghead: I think my point was made perfectly clear. what is there not to understand about it?
I'm not assuming they ONLY hate him because they're jealouse but its a valid theory for a lot of the bullpoo doing the rounds

No, no it's not. I come back again to the fact that plenty of those same people like other successful, wealthy drivers.

You misunderstand the reason for peoples jelousy and resentment of lewis. It is not just he fact that he has become rich and successful through driving, it is because he has done it so quickly-that is what they dont like. He may have done it at the expense of someone they feel more deserving or who is their favourite driver. He has not served his apprenticeship (tester, lower team driver). Straight in a top team. Lewis then confounded things by doing well and driviing better (in may races-not all) than Alonso. This situation irks people for some reason. Little upstart-shouldn't be allowed :bounce: He is a victim of his exceptional talent and his complete belief in it.

I was going to give some rest to Luis, but after reading this... gotta say:

1. How quickly he has achieved succes is not something that people dislike, on the contrary. What is CERTAIN is that this success is not 100% attributable to his talents alone, as most of his fans and himself admit to think. To me, this ultra rapid succes comes from starting in the best car of the season and having an unconditional support from his team and team boss, as well as his inherent talents.

2. In my mind, there is no problem of him having skipped the traditional F1 ladder... BUT he was able to skip it because Mclaren had a World Champion and a proven consistent driver in their ranks. And because of this he was able to ride the tidal wave in Mclaren to much success, which many other simmilarly talented drivers have not gotten the chance of doing. Had he started this yr... or even more, look at this yr and things are not the same, even with his stronger and improved abilities. So yes, his talent is there, but it is not the only cause for his success.

3. What irks some poeple about his fight with Alonso is not that he may have been faster. Is that he took advantage of his PRIVILEGE within the team and the relationship with his boss to do some things that other competitors avoid. Not only that, but he used the MEDIA and the advantage he felt came with exposure and attention he was getting, for being the 1st black man..., the first rookie..., the saviour of brittish motrosport etc... to address internal team issues.

4. And finally, what irks most people, including myself, is that on every ocassion he will overhype his abilities often obviating the privileges i mentioned above and others, and therefore bring down the efforts/abilities of others to manipulate media opinion around himself. Instead of letting the results speak for themselves. If he is as great as he says, HIS RESULTS WILL PROVE IT. And from where I stand I am completely open to such results, what I am definitely NOT open to hearing is how guaranteed such results seem to have become.

In summary... I don't like him because he is an arrogant, media manipulator who has used every chance he's been given (outside of the track) not only to prove his abilities, but to insistently shape the general opinion of the public around his talents. When such talents are yet to be consistently proven or supported on the track with the due results.

Rest my case. :smash:

Much of what you say has nothing to do with his driving and much of what you say is media spin. Yes it is his results which will prove if he is great so we have to wait a while.
In the meantime. HIS NAME IS LEWIS!!!!!

Exactly. So you see, its not that some people are putting his talents down or such... its just that some people are waiting to see him prove such talent and consolidate his possition, and hoping he does the same. Nothing wrong in that...

And of course, I have no problem with your fan-side appreciation. So if you're his fan... be happy when he does well and be sad when he doesn't. Rest assured I wouldn't spoil your glory when the merit is there. And will only 'lightly' salt the stuff-ups wounds :hehe:

In the meantime. HIS NAME IS LEWIS!!!!!

ok ok, since you're being so polite... I'll give it some practice... it's L-E-W-I-S
Ahhh like the Jeans... but with a W :biglaugh:

cheers!

Wow, I didn't expect my 'green eyed monster comments to make so much agro. Still its good to see racechick doing battle.
My comments should be taken in the context of both my posts on this point, not just the last one.
Yes, I really dont understand why LH gets so much grief from some of you. He is talented, he is a bit arrogant (but not even close to M.S.) he is young and he has made mistakes, but, he does not deserve this rubbish that is being levelled at him.
The green eyed monster point was made because I said that all drivers that get media attention get negative comment on this (and probably other) forum. The only drivers that dont get much negative comment are those who do not get much media coverage. The monster is lurking there somewhere!

I have never really viewed Lewis Hamilton as arrogant either. As far as Michael Schumacher being arrogant I guess we all have our own views as to what arrogant means so I'll let this one slide!
