Looks like Mercedes has gone to their FIA buds. .....
!

Is that confirmed or is it just your biased speculation?

As indicated by 'looks like' It is based on my observations.

It is easy to see that FIA is Merc's lap dog going back many years now. I am sure you remember the impartial FIA International Tribunal assembled by Todt to rule on the Merc secret, illegal, 3 day, 1000km, in-season private test session bagging Merc 3 wins and sorting their tire problems in which they let Merc suggest their own non penalty and then adopted it. Also the development of the new FIA V6 turbo regs followed the Merc recommendations (with the engine already in design) to the FIA token rules which protected the Merc engine advantage guaranteeing 3 wcc/wdc's and now the continued blind FIA eye on the Merc oil burning performance modes.

Merc going to the FIA to have more punishment brought on Vettel is not hard to see.

But it is just an observation really.

More of a logical fallacy really.

Opinions are just that... opinions!
They can be based on facts (such as legal, medical opinions)
or they can be based on emotions. Both are legitimate.

Ah ok, so anyone can write any old tripe, got it thanks.

Lol, really? That's how you think? It must be a nightmare for you watching the news, all those non stories that are neither confirmed or denied.

You're moaning that someone says that Merc have gone running to the FiA (based on their interpretation of events) and now you're moaning when someone says no one knows if they have so it's anyone's guess until confirmed either way.

Oy gevalt!

Hopefully cooler heads will prevail in this review on Monday. It is good to see influential and respected members of the F1 community like Button and now Brawn making rational statements which may help Todt with his decision.

Ross Brawn:

"Sebastian did something he shouldn't have done and got penalized for it," Brawn told the BBC.

"If we hadn't had a technical problem we would be sat here with Lewis having scored substantially more points than he did, so Lewis would have won the race and that would have resulted in a different complexion.

"It wasn't pre-meditated that's for sure, it was reaction to huge amount of adrenalin and passion running through these guys' systems."

The main culprit at the basis of the incident is a burning passion contends Brawn, something he believes should remain at the forefront of racing, although not in its ill-advised form obviously.

"It shouldn't have happened; it shows the passion of the guys fighting for the World Championship. That's the passion we want to see.

"Sebastian will reflect on what happened and learn from it. We want to see that passion in the future but perhaps not as raw as we saw in Baku."

This is like those crazy conspiracy theorists forums.

From what I have seen on the big forums is alot of support for moving on to the next race without further official interference or penalty, what happened in Baku should stay in Baku as the stewards have dealt with it. Also their is alot of support for having the drivers settle this on track and letting them race. After three years of Merc v Merc this is the sort of racing the fans have been wanting to see, a real battle between competitive teams and drivers.

There are very vocal sub groups of anti Vettel fans and Hamilton fans who are calling for more blood over this but mainly it seems to be sour grapes motivated because of even with a significant 30 sec + penalty (and a race win) Vettel still managed to finish ahead of Ham due to Merc's headrest messup.

It is still a concern that a heavy handed FIA could step in with more penalties for Vettel as their motivations are never clear. I fear that Vettel could pick up a 10 place grid penalty in the next race just so Todt can show that he is still in charge or to appease Merc or for some other PC/nanny state reason etc etc. The effect would be to lessen the intensity of the racing and drive fans away.

Since I haven't been following F1 as long as most of you have, someone remind me...
wasn't Ferrari crucified left, right and center any time the FIA was involved in an investigation?

ImageThis must be different, because it involves a different team...

I don't think you will get agreement from many on that. Some will say that things were going Ferrari's way especially when Mosley was involved. McLaren did get a hefty fine for their cheating ways in 2007, and there are those who believe that the fine was a bit over the top.

Since Todt has been in it has been an 'any one but Ferrari' policy imo and certainly pro Stuttgart.

In all honesty, I'm fed up of seeing this Vettel/Hamilton incident regurgitated over and over on social media and forums, time to let it go and move on with our lives. Vettel screwed up and was punished accordingly in Baku, we don't need further punishment to affect the world championship. This is the most exciting title race in years, I hope the FIA don't go and spoil it!

Sums it up nicely. It really is rather ridiculous and blown all out of proportion.

Worse things have happened. Verstappen drives like a drunken lunatic and everyone cheers, Vettel looses his s*** for 30 seconds after being brake tested and it's the end of the world.

It's all rather silly really.

It is being dragged out by this FIA investigation which includes a private interview of Vettel by Todt today (on Vettel's b-day!) and then a special meeting with the 'completely un-biased' independent International Tribunal (the same ones who approved of the Merc illegal in-season tire testing) a some point afterwards. So this will keep this alive until Austria at least.

Penalties range from loss of super-license to 'hey why didn't you just say you already got a penalty for this?'.

No further penalty for Vettel from FIA over Hamilton Baku incident

http://www.autosport.com/news/report.ph ... n-clashThe

The FIA has decided to take no further action against Sebastian Vettel for his clash with Formula 1 title rival Lewis Hamilton during the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

Vettel and Ferrari team principal Maurizio Arrivabene met with FIA president Jean Todt and other senior figures from motorsport's world governing body on Monday to discuss the collision in Baku.

The Ferrari driver was slapped with a 10-second stop-go penalty during the race for swerving into his Mercedes rival behind the safety car, but the nature of the incident meant the FIA wanted to review the matter further.

A statement from the FIA claimed that after a detailed look at the incident Vettel took full responsibility for what happened and apologised.

As a result of this, and a commitment from the four-time champion to commit personal time to educating young race drivers, the FIA has elected against taking the matter further.

A statement from the FIA said: "In light of these developments, FIA president Jean Todt decided that on this occasion the matter should be closed.

"Nevertheless, in noting the severity of the offence and its potential negative consequences, FIA president Jean Todt made it clear that should there be any repetition of such behaviour, the matter would immediately be referred to the FIA International Tribunal for further investigation."

Despite his offer to help educate young race drivers, Todt has removed Vettel from endorsing any road safety activities until the end of the year.

Todt said: "Top level sport is an intense environment in which tempers can flare.

"However, it is the role of top sportsmen to deal with that pressure calmly and to conduct themselves in a manner that not only respects the regulations of the sport but which befits the elevated status they enjoy."

The FIA's statement on Monday night said it had been worried after Baku about the implications Vettel's actions could have on junior categories.

It said it "remained deeply concerned by the wider implications of the incident, firstly through the impact such behaviour may have on fans and young competitors worldwide and secondly due to the damage such behaviour may cause to the FIA's image and reputation of the sport".

As well as the apology made to the FIA behind closed doors on Monday, a public apology from Vettel is due to be made as well.

To review the incident the FIA pulled together a panel that included FIA deputy president for sport Graham Stoker, FIA general secretary for sport Peter Bayer, F1 race director Charlie Whiting and deputy race director Laurent Meckies.

Had this panel decided that further action was required, then Todt could have called up the FIA International Tribunal to put charges to Vettel.

With no subsequent action taken, Vettel retains his 14-point lead over Hamilton in the drivers' championship.

Common sense prevails, Vettel had already been punished during the race, demoting him from a net win to 4th place, you could argue that Vettel was fortunate that Hamilton had issues with his cockpit headrest, forcing a stop to fix it. I feel that if Hamilton had not had this issue and won the race, we probably would not be talking about further punishment for Vettel at all.
