Does Hamilton like Alonso so much as to gift another WDC to him in 2015?

The clue is the heading says one thing and the content another

Heading says he has signed for 15, but when you read it then say he has fixed up insurance should he want to leave Merc and that this will happen sooner or later

Every top driver has had a chat with big Ron recently, of course Lewis will leave with a smile on he face - that's his surrogate father trying the prodigal son routine on him

That's the Google translate version, not sure what the human translation is.
To be honest I see both Lewis and Alonso being interested with the McLaren Honda tie in but I tynink Lewis would be daft to leave Merc! Alonso on the other hand might as well take the risk!

I think Alonso is highly likely to go for it...if that's ok with Ron. Lewis? Not yet. But I wouldn't write off seeing him back at McLaren in the future.

Yeah bud, that seems to be the general consensus. Bird in hand for Lewis, while Alonso has nothing to lose.

Given what's being reported by Forbes about the Vettel paycheck, Alonso leaving seems personal, not about money at all. Similar to the way Hamilton left Merc, saying he'd rather sit a year out than drive for the team in 2013.

Yup, which totally lines up with the Mark Hughes supposition

MnM the smiling assassin has done a number on the moody samurai - i love it

Eddie Jordan thinks is a done deal too, and they are just fine tuning the conditions.

If Mclaren seriously want to mount a title challenge, who else is available for them?

A bit of relieving news for us purists (aka Mercedes & Lewis fans):groucho:

Mercedes eyes Alonso as F1 2016 option if it cannot keep Hamilton

Fernando Alonso is on Mercedes' list of candidates for 2016, AUTOSPORT has learned, but only if talks with Formula 1 championship leader Lewis Hamilton over a new contract break down.

The Spaniard is facing a big decision over the next few months about which team to move to, having agreed with Ferrari to part company at the end of this season.

Although McLaren is interested in luring the former champion to lead it in its new Honda era next season, it knows it cannot offer any competitive guarantees.

With potential vacancies at current frontrunners Mercedes and Williams in 2016, Alonso faces a complicated situation.

McLaren is keen to lock him into a long-term deal of at least two years from 2015.

Accepting that, if there were no break clauses, would close him off to more competitive alternatives if Honda is not up to scratch immediately.

But if Alonso holds fire and even takes a sabbatical to try to be in a more advantageous situation for 2016, he risks being frozen out of the driver market entirely.

Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton

Should McLaren, Mercedes and Williams all agree contract extensions with their current drivers into 2016 and beyond, Alonso could be left with no chance of a comeback in a competitive car.

HAMILTON DEAL PRIORITY FOR MERCEDES

Hamilton has a deal in place with Mercedes for next season and the team has made clear several times that there is no intention of changing its driver line-up for 2015 despite recent tensions between the Briton and title rival Nico Rosberg.

Talks about extending Hamilton's contract for 2016 and beyond have been put back until the intensity of the championship fight is over.

Although both sides want to carry on together, it is not impossible that terms cannot be reached - especially because Hamilton would be targeted by other outfits as well.

Team sources suggest that in the event Hamilton does not stay, then Mercedes' aim is simply to get the best driver it can and that it therefore regards Alonso as an obvious candidate.

The team does not share Red Bull's opinion that Alonso can be a difficult personality to manage, and thinks it can control his political excesses to harness his great driving talent.

Speaking over the Japanese Grand Prix weekend, Mercedes motorsport boss Toto Wolff made clear that all drivers were on his team's radar.

"It is totally clear that every team and every driver has to optimise and try to get on top of such a situation," he said about the rapidly developing situation surrounding Alonso.

"At the moment, we are so happy with Nico and Lewis. We have a contract until the end of next year but there will be a situation where we are going to start thinking about what is going to happen next."

At Williams, where Alonso's long-time Renault ally Pat Symonds now holds a senior role, Valtteri Bottas's contract expires at the end of 2015 and the team holds an option on extending Felipe Massa's deal.

I don't think Mercedes can say fairer than that. They want Hamilton but if they can't get him they'll consider Alonso. Quite clever them saying that, it takes away a little of Lewis' bargaining power.
Alonso is the next best available after Lewis, of course they'll consider him. I rate Alonso very highly but I'm not convinced he could he could have done some those 'come back' drivers Hamilton put in this season. And qualifying? It isn't one of Alonso's stand out skills, Rosberg has always been a good qualifier and has given Lewis a run for his money. So he wouldn't have had an easy ride there.
The fun and games would have been a joy to behold. :hehe:

I think Williams is definitely worth Alonso considering. They may finish third this season, higher than the team Alonso is leaving. Maybe a one year contract with options? And keep an eye on what McHonda do?

Ok this was just shared by Lewis:

I'm focused on 1 thing & 1 thing only right now....Winning this championship!! I have not spoken to ANYONE about my future & certainly not to another team. I am committed 100% to MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS, this is my team & my belief in them is unmatched! ‪

If he moves to McLaren in 2015 after this, I'm officially anti-Lewis supporter from 2015 because I hate two faced fakers. :hehe:
