The thing with the military is you need to get to the rank where being loud works. As a jinior rank it can be a hindrance.

However military service would get you out of the hole you are in now

You can sit in a pub all day.

A co worker of mine, his wife works for a major liquor distribution company. She arranges promotional events. His house looks like a warehouse from all of the "leftovers". The point is that there is so much work out there that people don't prepare for because we're woefully unable to steer people towards jobs.

We're sold that only college is a viable option and the skilled labor force keeps shrinking. Over the years tuition has gone up and we've conditioned to look down on "trades" as a viable way to make a living.

You make more money than most of the population doing that.

Sorry, did I read that right? you need to earn 40k to take home the same you would if on the dole????

Not the ideal, sadly, it's the only other option for many after Walmart. You guys at least get government provided health care so people could actually see a doctor.

Well yes we can - if we wait 4-5 weeks for an appointment to see our GP, and then 6 months for a referral to a consultant, and then 18months for a procedure. In which time we will probably die from whatever it was.

I worked at ASDA for a while (British supermarket owned by Walmart). It was soul crushing; I hate customers, why should I smile at them when they just want to shout at me because it's busy.... On Christmas Eve!

Yes you heard that right. It soon adds up. Things like free nursery instead of paying 30 quid a week. To earn that much extra 120 a month plus tax. Of the top of my head would make it 150 a month. So that is worth 1800 a year as a wage. My rent is 800 a month so the government paying that soon adds up
