I hope Sergio gets the drive, he deserves it. I just hope he doesn't end up what Irvine / Barrichello / Massa have all been before him......

No one deserves to sit in the 2nd car at Ferrari!

No. Perez certainly has more potential that that.

I think Ferrari will stick with Felipe for this year, but with a few more bad races we might see Felipe retire - he can't be getting any joy out of what he doing ATM. If he did, I think SF will put a "stand in" driver in the car, most likely they will look to Jules Bianchi. But, here's the big thought from me on this, I definitely see LCdM pulling out the big cheque book and making a beeline for Seb.

As for the race, I was super impressed with the improvement Ferrari got out of the F2012 with almost no new parts in Malaysia. For China there is a swag of new parts, so, if they can continue the improvement they might just be a little closer to the pointy end of the 2012 performance stick.

1 driver who can't take a fast guy in equal machinery, and another guy who has already made a little cozy nest for himself at Redbull...the most unlikely thing to happen in Formula 1. I could say 'stranger things have happened' but I can't think of any stranger than this.

I'll concede there wont be many that would be predicting this. But, just a few things to remember. Seb has, on quite a few occassions, and even after he renewed his contract, hinted about being at Ferrari (remember his comment after winning Monza last year). On Alonso, no matter what you think about him, he knows that, to win a WDC he needs a teammate that can take points from his rivals. I really think SF see Seb as a future target.

Not Perez Spanky? He's fast and he'll behave.

It's not all about Ferrari, I'm sick of hearing theyre the promised land! Considering they were nothing for 20 years until they stole Team Benetton and now that influence is long gone why would a driver want to go there just because of them being the oldest team?
Seb will want to go where the machinery is and right now he has a better chance at Redbull the team hes just won two titles with!

Perez seems the most likely candidate to replace Massa considering he is on their driver program.

Well, Perez is part of the FDA (Ferrari Driver Academy) but, I get the feeling Ferrari wants both cars able to win - and right now, much as I dislike having to admit it, Felipe isn't delivering. To me Seb is logical and both parties have been on the record on multiple occasions in favour of the union. Mind you, Seb isn't Robinson Crusoe in publicly courting Ferrari. :hehe:

Mind you, it would setup an absolutely delicious pairing - Alonso and Seb in the same car, who'd come out on top?

Here's the problem with that Spanky. I don't believe that Vettel is the kind of guy that would go "backwards". He's been showing temper tantrums when he's got a car that's less than the best, I don't think he'll be jumping mid ship to go to Ferrari when they've got less than less than the best at the moment. I think Seb is more about him winning a WDC than Ferrari winning a WCC, so the "team" attitude is not in his style, especially not in his style when it's likely it could go against him. The flip side of that is that Alonso won't be the keenest on having him come onboard as it would be a direct affront to his status. Believe me, I'd love to see the pairing as well, but I think it wouldn't happen until Ferrari have a demonstrable winning car.

My thoughts exactly.

There's only room for one in these F1 cars, I'm not sure Seb would want Alonso on his lap...

I hope he doesn't Ferrari is a joke. They are clearly a #1 #2 team, and sergio deserves a real chance at racing. I'd like to see him replace webber or schumi.

Agree!! I don't want to be hearing team radios like....
"checo checo, maintain the gap."
"checo, Fernando is faster than you, confirm that you understand the message."

He deserves better!!!!

I think you'll find Red Bull have the rights to "maintain the gap" just ask Webber if you need any confirmation on that. :)

Massa and Kimi didn't have a de-facto number 1 and 2 system, and I don't think Massa and Alonso have one either. Massa was required to move over once he was out of the championship race but Alonso wasn't.

Times change, Schumacher probably the most famous for wanting preferential treatment, has been driving on equal terms with Rosberg, even moved over for him a few times.

It's probably also better to be number 2 in a top team than number 1 in a lower team, where are Perez's other options? Redbull operate a number 1 and 2 system and have their own driver program, the McLaren drivers seem pretty tied up, and if Schumacher leaves Mercedes will probably go for a German driver (Hulkenburg?).

Ferrari don't but Redbull do

As for Perez he will go to Ferrari it's guaranteed.
