First of all, most of you guys unfairly comparing young Senna to a legend but if you based on what he's done to land a seat at Renault, then no he doesn't deserve it but that's life and Renault has nothing to lose, well actually they have something to lose but more on that later. As for Heidfeld, Renault is using Nick as a scapegoat as the Renault is not even in the top twelve and if F1 is based on numbers and wins, then Nick is a better driver then Petrov, he's leading Petrov by 2 points in the Championship, it maybe only two points but that's two more points then Petrov has, Petrov has been out of the points contention 6 times compared to Nick's 5 times, don't forget Renault even set Nick's car on fire once. Renault is due for a major aero upgrade and if it works, then they can say "see Senna and Petrov is quicker then Nick", but Renault's biggest problem in acquiring Senna is what if he's good? Do you let Petrov, whom Renault has natured and invested in go next year? or do you let Kubica go? Three drivers, only two seats. And if Senna failed, then Renault need to start working on next year's car because they proved its not good enough for their drivers and the one that replaced him.

This is gonna get messy, Heidfeld has taken legal action to try and get his seat back.

Renault in the mix of legal controversy yet AGAIN?? Dear oh dear......

Meanwhile, Senna commences proceedings by binning the Renault in the wall. Good way to start.

High speed track, slippery conditions plus a driver that's trying to find the limits of the car that he's got to race for the first time in two days. Neither a surprise nor a disaster. His pace was decent to that point considering how little running he's done this year.

Kobayashi - by six times his points haul

Surely this one line renders the whole argument void. Kobayashi must of been driving a milk float in GP2..........

Nope, anybody that watched GP2 back then will tell you that Kobayashi was crap to be quite honest, took a lot of risks as he does now in F1, but 90% of the time couldn't pull them off and crashed. Wasn't particularly fast either. It was a major surprise that he settled to well and so quickly into F1, as he's far from crap any more!! Amazing turnaround.

All things considering he had a pretty decent outing today,

Im far from the biggest fan of the Senna name but it was great to see him out there in a lotus.

He did outpace petrov for a while, in greasy tracked spa, only previous experience 1 year in a HRT, and with all this KERS, DRS and tyres to contend with and he was solid, the crash was inevitable for me, given the circumstances.

That said ill be suprised if he finishes the race on sunday, might be too much of an ask.

He was consistently ahead of petrov in the second practise.

Oh yes, I agree that those things have to be expected. He wasn't the only one to mess up.

His pace isn't too shabby either.

Not the most compelling argument, given Heidfelds 10 years in F1 to Petrovs 1 and a half.

" Renault is due a major aero upgrade and if it works, then they can say: " See Senna and Petroc is quicker then Nick" "

Cant be calling Renault up for using Nick as sscapegoat, when youve already got your excuses lined up should they be quicker.

Not to mention ive heard nothing from Renault blaming Nick, they just sacked him and have got on with it.

How not to answer a question:

(Question is being asked to Eric Boullier regarding why Heidfeld was replaced)

Q. But he has more points than Vitaly; normally you swap drivers who are behind?

EB: It is my decision, okay. If I am not happy it is not only my decision, it is both decisions for this company. If you are not happy with a driver....I didn't break a contract. The best evidence is the court refused [his action].

This isnt really helping Bruno's image as a pay driver as it shows that EB cant give a proper answer for why Nick is being replaced.

what we don't know, is that Heidfeld could have been a total sausage to the engineers or team at Renault hence why they might have wanted to get rid of him. Maybe he is not helping as well as they thought he would. Perhaps he acted too big headed like he is an expert .

Yes I would love to see Bruno get a chance, just like I want to see Kobayashi, Perez, and some of the other rookies get better.

But we also don't know the reason why Heidfeld is persuing legal action. His lips are sealed as far as telling the media what is going on.

Agreed.

I've said all along I don't think Bruno is good enough for a top drive.I must be honest i didn't know Viviane had stopped him racing for ten years.Could understand it after Ayrton's death, but to lose his father in a accident as well, can't blame her for that.
It's a credit to get where he has with a time out like that.

Well he was several places ahead of Petrov(9th and 15th was is?)in 3rd practise. Lets see if he can carry it through to quali itself.

Practice means very little. It's just a test session so who knows what they were doing to each car. Qualifying will be the first indication of Senna's pace compared with Petrov.
